This is part two for the final episode of When the Weather is Fine!
Caution: Be wary of typos
Shorthand Character Chart: coming up
How we do this: This live recap will be in two parts and we segment each post around every 10 minutes. Sometimes sooner, sometimes later depending on the scene. There will be typos which we have fantasies of fixing once the episode finishes airing. Also, if there is a preview then we will try and translate it. Look for that at the bottom or on a separate post!
KOREAN DRAMA I’LL SEE YOU WHEN THE WEATHER IS FINE EPISODE 16 – PART 2
Later on, Eun-seob walks home alone. he gets to his bookstore that is very quiet and clean. He sits on a bench inside and closes his eyes. Then he looks around the corner quickly, but nothing is there. So he rubs his face and looks over to his desk. But no one is there.
Hye-won shows up to the B&B. She asks Myung-yeo if she is still here? I thought you were gone, that is why I am back. She goes upstairs. Myung-yeo calls her name but Hye-won is already upstairs.
A man in the cafe tells Myung-yeo no more free eggs, okay? Myung-yeo eats her eggs and talks to Hye-won who is sitting with her. Hye-won tells her that hse might open a hogwan with her own friends from college. The one thing she is good at is teaching kids.
Myung-yeo is sitting with them, she says that Hye-won mentioned that she said she didnt deserve to teach anyone? Hye-won says that she used to think that. She was so lonely in Seoul so she hated her job, but now that she has warmed up, she sees what hse does properly.
Myung-yeo asks her how it was? Hye-won says its not that bad, sometimes I’m happy. Myung-yeo asks when she is going to open it? Hye-won says she is not set. She asks her mother if she is permanently back? Her mother says yes, she sold the house. Hye-won tells her that is good. Did you live there?
Mung-jung says yes, she fixed it up nicely and sold it.
But then Jang-woo comes in and asks her when she came back? He is startled to see her. Jang-woo says there are no seats. The owner yells that there are plenty of seats. But Jung-woo says he will get some sunshine outside!
He goes outside where Eun-seob and the mountain girl are standing. He tells them that there are no seats! Let’s go, let’s go! He ushers them away.
At the B&B, Myung-yeo says goodbye to everyone very dryly. Yoon-taek asks if that is it? You guys don’t have any attachments. So Yoon-taek says goodbye to them and then tells Myung-yeo that she should say bye better. But Myung-yeo says for her that is enough.
Hye-won waves to her in the car. Yoon-taek asks if she is coming back? Myung-yeo says no, never. Her niece and sister pleasantly watch as Yoon-tae drives the car away.
that day, Jang-woo walks with his coworkers and sees Eun-sil walking up the street. So he goes to talk to her. He asks what she is doing? She tells him that she is jobless. What are you doing?
He says he is taking a half day off. What are you doing, would you like to watch a movie or go to the mountain or go to a market or a convenience store? She tells him that she is super full, we can go to the convenience store. He says he is also full.
She tells him that she wants something like a milkshake, but this town doesn’t have any milkshakes. Do you want to go with me to find a milkshake tasting ice cream? He agrees so he runs back to work to take his half day off and she waits for him.
In the car, Myung-yeo thanks Yoon-taek for driving her. He asks if she is not crying anymore? Are you really not coming back? Why not come back? Sometimes if you miss it, you can come back. She looks pleasantly out the window and then says that she doesn’t want to. She looks content. He smiles.
Int he town, Jung-woo goes back to meet Eun-sil where she was waiting. She tells him to run across the street, hurry! So he comes quickly. She teases him and says she waited for him for a long time. He says it was all his managers fault.
They go to a convenience store and she sucks on a milkshake like drink. She asks him why he came back here after going to Seoul University. I really did not understand that. He says he really likes his hometown. She says that Seoul people usually get a job at a big company.
He says his parents recommended for him to come back and go to City Hall. She says that his dream is small. He agrees and says that for him that is happiness. She speaks really quickly and asks, so what you are saying is not deciding yourself is happiness? You studied so hard and were top of the class and went to Seoul University. you should go to a bigger world but you came back here and are a government worker because your parents wanted you to and you are trapped and work 9-6 and sleep.
He cuts her off and says that maybe it isi not good and you can think that it is nothing and think about those things, but for me, I call that day to day life happiness. Someone has a dream of going into space after going to Seoul University. But for me, going to Seoul University and living my day to day life everyday is my dream. I am happy to work hard and be normal. I know that.
She is at a loss for words. But she asks, why didn’t you write that? I know how to be happy. If you wrote that, then maybe I would like you a bit more. He asks if it is a cool thing? She says not that many people know how to be happy. He asks if he is appealing to her a little bit now? She sips her yogurt again and ays she is hungry.
He says he did not know that she eats so well. You are my style. She tells him, I have started to like you Jang-woo. He is shocked to hear it. So she tells him to her face, I have started to like you. Then she teases him about his red face.
He stands up and kisses her quickly. But then he gets nervous and says he is hungry and walks away stiffly. She is happy. She walks next to him and they awkwardly talk about how they can start dating today…um…you know my mom wants me to get married.
Eun-seob puts some things in his car. But then he stops when Hye-won comes up and asks him if he is going anywhere. He looks at her for a moment and says that he is going somewhere. It is his birth mothers memorial.
He looks at her for another moment then gets in his car to drive off. He drives right by her.
But then she starts running after him so he screeches on his breaks on the bridge and gets out.
ES – What…?
HW – Um, just, one time. One time I want to hug you. Can I?
He looks at her for a moment. She look at him then runs to give him a big hug. She wraps her arms around his shoulders. And we see a flashback of all the moments she knew that Eun-seob liked her.
He might also be thinking of those moments. We get a lot of moments of their love story in this little town while they are hugging. Or while she is hugging him.
Then she lets go. He is kind of blank faced.
HW – Sorry, I tried to ignore it, but I couldn’t when I saw you. I am sorry, goodbye.
She turns to walk away.
ES – This time. How long will you stay?
She turns around.
ES – This time, how long are you going to stay?
She smiles brightly and starts to giggle.
Hye-won goes into the bookstore and turns on the lights. She starts to walk around.
HW – Forget? Of course, we just met in winter, you are nothing. Of course I will forget about you.
She thinks about all her moments in the bookstore.
HW – It was all dumb thoughts. You were different.
She remembers thinking about him putting the light in the lamp.
HW – You were like snow accumulating heavy in the winter. You will never leave me. I forgot about that momentarily.
Myung-jung stands with Him-dol outside a cafe. He gives her a lollypop. She asks if he is the letter guy? he says yes. She asks, why did you send them to me for 7 years?
HD – Well, I feel good when I read something nice.
Cut to the towns people sitting together under a pergola. The mayor fans himself and pleasantly tells the woman behind him that it is spring. They all agree as they keep folding clothes.
The market is lively in the town. Eun-seob’s mother buys something for her son. The owner says she likes her son so much, your daughter will be jealous. Eun-seob says that after she adopted him, she tried to like him more to not discriminate with her daughter, but now I like him more. They both laugh. She shows the scarf her son made for her and happily smiles.
In a field, a halmoni ells at a halbae for being slow in farm work. Other halbaes work in the farm as well. One of them is Eun-seob’s father. The father tells the other man that they need to play pocket ball (pool). So you have to finish! The father says, he will work hard to finish.
In the bookstore, Hye-won writes something in a poetry book.
VO – Hye-won once told me that happiness is difficult to recognize and even if you recognize it, you need effort. Yes, that is true. We all try hard to be happy. Happiness is something you can get after trying over and over again. It does not stay with you too easily.
Eun-seob comes in and Hye-won runs and hops on him in a big hug. He smiles brightly.
VO – Even if you try hard, it can go wrong.
They happily hug and joke and she gives him a big back hug. He soaks it in and walks to the window to open it with her hugged up on him. He pours a coffee for her and they kiss in the window. He kisses her again and again.
VO – But, no one knows our future.
The camera scrolls up on a book. It is a book that Eun-seob wrote called Goodnight Irene. The bookstore is in the image on the book.
VO – If we continue like this without stopping.
Whi races to school on her bike and torments the new boy who is riding his bike. He tries to get away.
VO – If we try.
Bo-young walks up the streets of downtown and looks at a text on her cell phone. it says something pleasant so she smiles and keeps walking. (It kind of seems like it is a text from Hye-won).
VO – I believe that that kind of day will come.
Hye-won stands outside at the bookstore. She looks up at the sky.
HW – Yes, I also believe it.
Eun-seob comes outside happily and looks at Hye-won. Then he calls her name. She turns around smiling, he smiles as well.
HW – That day will really come.

I met Irene again after awhile.
She was the one I missed so much and wanted to see.
But I hid my heart and stupidly ran away.
But she ran to me and hugged me.
She made my frozen heart of-guard once again.
All those days where I was not myself and could not sleep.
It became the past again.
This late, this woman who suffered a lot is sleeping under my arms.
She is light and like the smell of grass in spring.
Everyone here is filled with Acasia smell everywhere. Roger.
Adding: She woke up in the night and kissed my nose and put her head on my chest and slept again. Kisses are good things.
A nice easy going ended. It felt a bit empty in the reunion because they didn’t really explain the rush to leave the cafe so quickly. But I will just assume that Jang-woo knew that Eun-seob wasn’t in a position to be shocked like that during lunch.
I also wish that they gave his book a bit more attention than they did. It would have been nice to see him turning it into a publishing house and getting it bound and putting it in his own bookstore.
I chock that all up to running out of time in the end.
I liked this entire show and definitely will recommend it as a melo for someone to watch who is in the mood for a melo.
Yay. I’m so happy right now.
I don’t know why my emotional well being gets so caught up in the happiness of fictional characters. Perhaps it’s distraction…. who know. All I know is that I’ve been on edge all afternoon… Maybe I need help, that doesn’t sound healthy but yes, thank you so much for the recap. I really appreciate all the things that you translate – it really helps bring the story home for non native speakers like myself.
Same, same, same 😍
same here don’t worry still there at 45 years old. we are just sensitive and empathic people around the globe that connect with characters because they come from another human being artistic expressions, and those characters were quite the “realistically real ones”; just a perfect team of actors and a perfect collective play / film direction. So sensitive and true each second of the drama
Sebba. Wanna talk? If yes, I’ll give you my email. I just need someone with whom I can relate to. And somehow, you’re that person. It’s weird and lame I know. Anyway.. looking forward to your reply. Fingers crossed🤞🏻
Im.so inlove with their love story❤
Me too, May 😍
Thank you for my happy hour in the afternoon. It is a beautiful piece of work and I wouldn’t mind if it were going on for much longer. But we always tend to be greedy sometimes… Thank you again.
You’re welcome, Gia!
And so the series that comforted us for the last 8 weeks has finally come to a beautiful end!
Along with Eun Seop I would have liked HW to have something to do there so I would have felt that she will not leave him again 🙂 I also loved Hwi’s change of heart. She is such a doll and I absolutely adored her character. One more masterpiece in acting is Eun Seop’s mother! On a random thought I would love to watch a spinoff series about how all the characters are doing after sometime. I would especially love to see how Eun Seop tackles the 3 ladies in the Walnut house post his reunion 🙂
Thanks again for all the subs!
Boooooo! They shouldn’t rush the ending… HW and ES love story is still progressing…. Also JW and eun sil story… I was expecting they will surprise us for adding more episodes…
I love this drama so much. I wush for more episodes. I love every charaters in the story.
After reading the other comments, i do feel that it is not the ending i hope for, but at least it is a Happy ending. I am going to miss all of them. Thank you so much for the recap. I am really looking forward to understanding more of the voice-overs since reading and watching it is quite difficult. Thank you for the effort.
Thank you V! I also wish they showed more of ES and HW, instead of the cutesy courtship of JW and ES which I thought would have been resolved with the time jump already. I love this whole series though and every character in it, although the bookstore story with the uncle was not resolved.
so where did HW aunt go? Just on some random trip? I wish they explained.
ARE THIS LOVE STORY BASED ON TRUE STORY…CAUSE I CAN FEEL IT THE WAY THAT ES AND HW LOVE ARE VERY STRONG…IF THIS IS A TRUE STORY PLEASE TELL ME WHO IS THE WRITER AND WHERE CAN I READ MORE ABOUT THIS WRITER .
Thanks for the recap. i prefer reading your recap first before watching the drama so i can get the feel of every scene . if i rely 100% on subtitle, i have to re-watch at least 4 times. First to read the subtitle to understand the story, 2nd to relate the translation and actors expression, 3rd to watch it with more understanding and 4th to enjoy best moments scene. This drama really soothing..
I just want to know, who is the mountain girl?
The girl who had an accident in the mountains and Eun Seop saved her. She seems to have a crush on Eun Seop and has been pestering her colleague Jang Woo to help her have a meal with Eun Seop. Hope this helps!
Loved the story and thanks for the recap!
Thank’s for the recap but i also wish that it should continue and i also love that they had a happy ending.
I was so happy to find your recap of every episode of this kdrama! I love it sooo much and wish others could appreciate it in its full artistry–writing, acting, directing, cinematography. It’s just an amazing piece, so deep in meaning– individual and group suffering and happiness. I appreciate the theme of how little things in life–little villages, little gestures, and “little” unknown people all have an impact on others around them. That though someone like Hye-won who suffered silently through her own pain, her mere existence to Eun-seob meant so much to him, that her existence alone brought him happiness. Thank you soooo much for translating each episode. I felt that I got to appreciate this drama even more on a whole new level. I needed to find a place and group of people who love this drama as much as I do. You are my bluebird of happiness today. Thank you!
I think they left clues to point to Hae-won staying.
1.) She didn’t answer when Eun Seob asked her how long she was staying.
2.) She said she failed all her teaching auditions in Seol (she has nothing tying her their).
3.) I think they foreshadowed her teaching in the town (at least to me): when she played at the flea market and somebody said they wanted to learn I though she might end up teaching there.
4.) Her Aunt is gone whom she still needs space from (and whom also needed to leave that place and create her own life – it was a prison for her and she actually had a lot of enthusiasm for life back in the day.)
5. ) Her mom is living at the Walnut House; and they mentioned a couple of times Hae-won not understanding why she can’t/wasn’t living with her mom; maybe she will want to stay to live with her
6.) Even tho she “healed” a bit & has perspective on her previous unhappy time in Seoul the scenes of her there in the last episode she still seemed a bit lonely in contrast to her w/ Eun Seob at the end.
7.) All of this plus the idea that Hae-won might of sent that text to Bo Young really seems like she doesn’t have anything holding her back from staying.
Bonus thought: It seems like Hae-won let herself believe that her feelings weren’t that deep for Eun-Seob and his weren’t that deep for her probably because she’s the type to run away from happiness because of her emotional baggage (she also said she didn’t think she “deserved” to be a teacher because of the loneliness she carried around); now that she lightened the load I think she’ll decide to stay.
