RESTAURANT

Hye-won goes to a restaurant to drink and cry. It is raining buckets outside. She sits and drinks and thinks about what her aunt said about turning herself in. She also thinks about her mom and why she never told her where she lives or how she lives or why she never answered her mail or meeting requests.

She remembers telling her mom to leave because it was uncomfortable to have her around and yelling at her to get out of the B&B. She also remembers her aunt chasing her at the lake to keep her from killing herself.

She remembers a lot of things about her past. She also remembers the train ride back where her aunt asked her why she wants to die and that she shouldn’t die. If you die then I die and your mom dies and we all die. That is the thing. We all die.

Hye-won keeps drinking and crying and thinking all the thoughts.

BOOKSTORE

Eun-seob tries to re-shelve books but he misses Hye-won and thinks about her.

Hye-won is in bed. It is morning now so she wakes up looking horrible, her hair is all over the place (though still beautiful, lol). Then Bo-young opens the door. It looks like she slept at Bo-young’s place last night.

Bo-young gives her something to eat and says that she went out with some other teachers and saw that she was passed out. She wonders why she drank so much, did you have an argument with Eun-seob?

HW – Bo-young, I also liked you. I liked you. That is why I was hurt by you. Because I trusted you that much and liked you. Everything I had to undergo that time was all because of you so I could not forgive you too easily. I don’t think our relationship will be as it was before.

BY – Can we just have a little crack? It is not like you can only eat at a perfect table with no blemish. Whatever we spend time on, we have blemishes. There is no perfect relationship. If there is a little crack, then what does it matter. What if we have a little pain to each other. What is so bad about it. We are all not perfect. That is why we make things to blame each other and hurt each other. That is how we live. I gave you unforgivable pain. But I really wanted to have a new chance. if you are still not ready, then I will wait for you. I don’t know, if more time passes, maybe it can be better.

It is still raining outside.

BY – The rain is nice.

Hye-won looks at Bo-young who is looking at the rain. Then we cut to her catching a bus back home. She gets inside and looks at a mother and daughter happily smiling on the sidewalk to each other.

Cut to Hye-won’s family having a happy moment at the B&B when she was little. They are braiding grandmothers hair, her aunt and mother are there as well. Grandmother thinks she looks like an alien and everyone laughs. They are having a very fun time.

In the present, Hye-won walks back to the B&B. There is a police car there. She sees the police car and is instantly worried. She takes off running to the door thinking that her aunt is turning herself in. Sh starts yelling to the cop.

But actually some guys are taken away in handcuffs so Hye-won wonders what is going on. Her aunt shows up to wondering what is going on. The cops says that these guys were having a naked party and ran this way. He asks what Hye-won was yelling about. Hye-won says nothing and goes inside.

They both go inside. Her aunt asks if she was surprised because she thought she was turning herself in? Hye-won asks why she put the photo of halmoni there? It wasn’t always there. Emo says it is because she never came back ever since umma died. I missed her.

Hye-won tells her emo that she hates her. Emo says that she understands. 

HW – You did it because you thought I would have a hard time. I thought I would understand you but I still don’t.

MY – Why not.

HW – I think we can share pain together as a family. So let’s share pain together. Don’t turn yourself in. If you survived for ten years for mom, then why don’t you live the next ten years for me. You said if I die then you die and halmoni dies and everyone dies. I was in hell back then. I wasn’t the person who did it but I was also in hell. If you turn yourself in then I will be in hell again. So why don’t you just live like we are now. But I can’t take you like we were before. For now, I need time to absorb it. I will leave.

MY – What?

HW – I will leave, Emo.

Hye-won leaves. Emo is surprised at the turn of events and starts to whimper. She braces herself on the sink.

Hye-won goes outside and looks at the bookstore.

BOOKSTORE

She goes to the bookstore and lets herself in. Eun-seon is refilling the coffee machine with coffee. She says his name so he turns around.

HW – Can I talk to you?

ES – Yes.

ES – Do you want a coffee?

HW – *shakes head*

ES – It is okay.

HW – Emo said she will turn herself in. I told her not to.

ES – You did….

HW – Yes. But now I can’t look at emo. So, I am leaving. 

HW – Spring came.

HW – I hope your bookstore goes well and I hope that you stay a warm person like this. My heart has never been fake, you know that right?

ES – *nods softly*

HW – Then, goodbye Eun-seob.

She turns and walks out. He lets her go. She goes back inside the B&B.

HW – I am back.

She looks around and thinks about Eun-seob. She remembers giving him a big hug in the car. She sits alone in her room and continues thinking about Eun-seob and how much they love each other.

She decides to go back to the bookstore. But she sees a sign on the bookstore from Eun-seob that says “I am leaving the bookstore for a few days.”

She remembers Whi telling her that Oppa would be in the woods at this time of day.

So she runs to the woods.

FOREST HOUSE

Eun-seob burns some papers int he fire and goes outside. He sees her running up to him. She gives him a big hug and cries.

VO – Hye-won ah, I understand you will leave here some day.

HW – I am sorry Eun-seob.

VO – I am ready for everything. But, when you leave. Hopefully my heart is not so heavy. I hope your heart is not heavy and you leave the town happily without getting hurt at all.

HW – I am sorry.

VO – I hope that from the bottom of my heart.

He also returns the hug.

MORNING

Eun-seon sleeps alone in his house. It looks like Hye-won slept there last night also. He wakes up and sees her covers folded next to him. he sits outside and sees her boots sitting there? OR someones boots.

VO – (HW) Are you disappointed because I am not listening?

VO – (ES) No, but I still love you. Goodbye, Hye-won.

Hye-won is somewhere by a tree digging up something. It looks like she is digging up her cell phone which is by a tree at the Buddhist temple. She puts it in her pocket and grabs a bag to head out. She is all dressed up just as chic as when she first came to the town.

After keeping this journal, the volume of today started to exist.
All those accumulated days didn’t present any changes to me
Then when she came this winter and we loved each other
Those days didn’t accumulate as equal peace anymore
Today’s volume is different than before
it will be different next winter
The coming winters volume that I don’t know yet
I posted that I am closing the bookstore for a few days. My nerves are a fully stretched bow.
I decided to unload everything and rest

COMMENTS

Everything looks like it is being tied up nicely, and I can understand why Hye-won has to leave the town for a bit. It all makes sense y’all. I feel bad for Eun-seob who has to stay in town and give Hye-won her space. Our quiet pining hero is only surrounded by his books and loved ones now, but not the woman he loves. Poor thing. But I am pretty confident that she is going to come back next winter as poetically as she always comes and all will be well.
