I don’t know if this is some loophole or upgrade or something that KBS is doing, but there is a way to watch Radio Romance directly from their site, legally. We tried it in the USA and it worked (though I am not sure if it will work from other countries, you will have to try it out and see. Let us know if you can or cannot in the comments.).
Just in case this is an oversight on their part, DO NOT POST THIS HOW TO ANYWHERE. Just direct people back to this post so they can read it. I want this loophole to remain open for as long as possible! Okay, so to watch Radio Romance (or any KBS show) directly from their site, follow these steps:
STEP #1: Go to http://www.kbs.co.kr/ . This will take you to the Korean KBS site (not the English one).
STEP #2: Click “On Air-VOD” in the upper left corner.
STEP #3: A drop down window should open. On the drop down window click on KBS2
STEP #4: A pop up window should pop up. If you don’t have flash then another pop up window will open and it will tell you that you don’t have flash player. Click okay. If you do not have flash player then you need to install flash player on your computer or grant access to your computer for flash player to run on KBS. You need flash player in order to access their live streaming service.
After activating flash, continue on with step 5.
STEP #5: The pop up will pop up with a frozen screen. DO NOT PRESS ANYTHING ONE THE RIGHT. Those are other KBS channels and not the drama channel. Instead, just press play on the video. That is the live stream. It might take a few seconds for it to show up depending on your internet speed. If it doesn’t show up then click “Play” again. You might have to click the image itself, depending on your browser.
Okay, that is it! You do not need a login or anything, which is so strange. If you don’t know how to grant permissions to use flash player on your computer then google “How to use flash player on Mac” or “How to use flash player on a PC” or “How to use flash player on a Chrome/Mozilla/Safari” and something should pop up. That’s what I did and I was able to watch an hour of live tv before my battery started to drain (usually you can only watch 3 minutes).
This is a completely legit way to watch Radio Romance or any KBS2 show live and on air. I don’t know if this is KBS’s new strategy to attract an international audience or if it is an oversight on their part, because it wasn’t like this a couple months ago when we tried with Go Back Souses. It is that way now though so we should use it.
I have been doing this for a couple of years. Hard part is waking up early (5 or 6AM PST) to match Korea’s time zone. They do not broadcast 24 hours, but they do let you watch the 10PM shows (at least for Mon-Tues and Wed-Thurs dramas, never tried Fri-Sat) …
For some reason this didn’t work for us back in October, but now it is all of a sudden? Maybe it was just us though. It’s good to know you’ve been able to do it for a few years.
Yeah, the hard part definitely is the waking up part. 🙂
it is stated 본 방송은 저작권 관련으로 서비스 하지 않습니다. and when i click ok it was closed automatically.
Hi Edilala, may I ask what country you are trying from?
We tried it and it didn’t work for us either whereas it previously worked. It has been on and off in the last day or two. We think it might have something to do with the Olympics possibly?
I suggest trying again once the Olympics are over.
hello, thanks alot for sharing!
it was working but sometimes they block the channel so we cannot watch it. it is saying this “본 방송은 저작권 관련으로 서비스 하지 않습니다.”
is there any suggest for the second plan?
We think this might have something to do with the Olympics! they block it to foreigners during the Olympic coverage and forget to unblock it during their tv show coverage. We are on and off with it as well. Hopefullly it works with no issues next week when the Olympics are over.
