1.2 million people tuned in to watch the first episode of The Tale of Nokdu sending its average viewership to 7.1%. Amen for that because this show is amazingly fun. It is zippy and sweet with just the right amount of camp to make it light. All the acting is on point, especially of the trio of female enforcers in the widow’s camp that I like to call the Ajumma Avengers. I have no bad things to say about episode 1 (1&2) and 2 (3&4), I loved everything about them.

The ratings went up for the next days episodes as the average viewership climbed 1.2 points to 8.3%. I can just see KBS salivating these numbers because they have not been doing too well in the ratings market as of late. In fact, I think Fight for My Way was their last hit which happened back in the summer of 2017. They have had a lot of misses since then. But with this drama, as well as When the Camellia Blooms, pulling in respectable ratings, the network might be on the upswing.

I am sure the cast is over the moon. In fact, the main lead actor, Jang Dong-yoon, made a promise to pour sweet rice wine to fans if the first episode made more than 6%, so get thy self to the salon ladies because it looks like that just might happen.

The Tale of Nokdu airs Mondays & Tuesdays at 22:00 KST. You can catch our live recap on Mondays and Tuesdays as well.
