BIRTHDAY PARTY

About four kids are having a birthday party at a restaurant. The birthday boy is in a wheelchair. The mother thanks them for coming. But it looks like the kids are there because they want to make fun of him. They actually give him a soccer ball and then take photos of him opening it. 

The lady tells them that they can play soccer later. But the kids tells her that they will all go play on the trampoline, he can’t come. They all leave. So yeah, bunch of jerk kids. The birthday boy says he will go to the bathroom by himself. So he leaves. The mother tries not to cry at the table. It looks like she might be praying.

The soccer ball rolls off. 

Lee Rim picks it up and walks it over to her. She apologizes for being noisy. He asks what she prayed for. Sh says that she prayed for her son to walk again and starts to cry. He tells her that that won’t happen. But, I can make their legs crippled. Why don’t you change your prayer?

His secretary is with him. The woman looks at them seriously.

On the radio, we hear that three kids got hit by a truck while crossing the street. They won’t be able to run again or be 100% cured.

FLORIST

A woman is at a florist and says that today is her dead son’s birthday. The florist apologizes for it. The woman asks why she is sorry to her. Just pack it. This woman is Song Jong-hye. She is the woman who was happy that her husband died all those year ago.

On that day that Lee Rim approached her, the cops also knocked on her door and said that they are there for her son. Lee Rim tells her that her son fell in a lake and died, her husband died by it and run. Your husband and son had a suspicious death. Now everyone in the world will point their finger at you. What will you do? Do you ant to be saved?

She does not answer the door. 

In the present, she lays flowers on her son’s grave.

VO – You low class person, you laughed once. You will never be able to laugh again. 

She leaves the gravesite.

POLICE STATION

Kang Shin-jae watches as Tae-eul interrogates a man about the dead person’s case. This man says that he may have sent texts to him but he did not kill him. he has an injury to his head so he says that someone on the street hit him, that is why he has it.

She asks when it happened. he says that it happened 3 weeks or so ago. I don’t know, I just passed out and was at home. There was a lot of blood on the floor so I cleaned it up. She tells him that it was not his blood, it matched the victims DNA. he hut you and you hit him back and killed him. Where is the murder weapon?

He says he is not that person! you should check.

So they go look at the CCTV at the drinking place. later on they talk about how the victim followed this suspect all the way to the apartment. After that, we can’t check what happened.

The cops start to talk about it and how they need to find the murder weapon. Let’s head home. Tae-eul tells them that it is weird that this normal hardware store owner found out the suspects information? they all reluctantly look back at her as if they would rather be at home. But they reluctantly sit back down.

One cop thinks that if you can go crazy after losing money. Another one grumbles that they will need to find the murder weapon. She agrees with them and then tells them that they should go home.

HORSE

She heads home and sees the horse in front of her house. She tells the horse that he looks classy so she bought him organic food. The horse starts neighing at her seriously. She asks where his owner is and starts to call Eun-seob.

LIBRARY

She goes to the library to talk to Eun-seob. Eun-seon tells her that Gon has been reading in the libary for three days. He is reading all about the history of this Korea.

Tae-eul goes to sit with him. He has a lot of drinks on his table that women gave him. Gon tells Tae-eul that the people here are so kind, they all gave this to me. I also found out that you have a president here. He shows an image of the Korean President on Time magazine.

CHICKEN PLACE

They leave to go eat fried chicken at a restaurant. But he is  not eating because he says that he does not eat food that has not been tasted. Because it could be poisoned. She asks how he ever ate before? Gon tells him that Eun-seob ate it. I didn’t even need to tell him, he just started eating it first.

She asks if he wants her to eat it? He says no, if it was poison and this was my last meal, then I want to tell you my last word.

Gon – Thank you for being somewhere in the world. I was less lonely for the last 25 years.

She looks at him for a moment. He picks up a leg and starts to eat it. Then he comments on how great it is. It is the first time he has tasted something like that. She asks if they don’t have chicken there? he says not like this with sauce together.

She asks what he did in the library, he says he read the history of her world. He wanted to know the differences. She asks what the differences are. He says that the history is different. Seo Hyun the King died early in your world, but was a great King in my world. Because he stopped the Chinese from invading.

Then from that point the two worlds history has separated and now it has ended up here. Your world after the war with industrialization got super developed. That was surprising.

She asks if he is posting a web novel online? Did you write this much?

VO – (kid voice) Will it be here? The reason I survived that night.

Flashback to little Gon looking at his little horse and talking to the head nurse. The head nurse tells her that they still had a life born that night. He says that he heard the sound of a pipe that night.

Internal flashback to little Gon walking up the hallway that was covered in blood. He asks the head nurse if she thinks that the pipe was from that Dragon Pipe?

She says noOoOo, it does not make a sound. He says it did make a sound, that is why I went there. I couldn’t hear anything else because the Pipe sound was so loud. Not even the gun sound was louder.

Nam – I did not k now that you remembered everything, you never talk about it.

Gon – That night, I had two things. I am asking you if that thing in my wip is one of them and if you have the other one. 

She says yes and holds her staff. She says that she kept it. Even though I was afraid, I brought it back to give it to you. It is a precious thing. The thing that doesn’t make sound, that makes sound. That unidentified thing that exists. She holds the ID tag for Tae-eul.

Nam – So, I hope you forget about everything. 

She hands them both over to him. 

Gon – So, this is a secret between you and me.

Nam – Yes your highness.

Gon – Is it in here, the reason I survived that night?

In the present, Gon keeps talking to Tae-eul

Gon – Why don’t you believe what I saw at all?

TE – Is it okay to believe that nonsense? I still cannot believe that the Earth is round. But a parallel universe? Just eat before it gets cold. Don’t do anything until we get your DNA results.

Gon – Why are you helping me if you don’t even believe me. Is that your vocation?

TE – I need that to save the country.

Gon – SO why?

TE – I am just doing it, no why. I am a police officer of Korea.

GOn – There is no other reason? No other reason for me to be trapped in your world?

Cut to Gon walking up the city streets of Seoul. he looks at all the Kings of Korea in a museum. It looks like he is at the National Library. He reads about the last King of Korea and looks at the painting.

KINGDOM OF KOREA

Meanwhile, Young is still trying to find out where Gon went. He goes back to that area where he chased Gon to and sees a person riding a skateboard with a rabbit jacket. But it is not the person he is looking for. This person knows him though and asks to take a photo with him. Young leaves.

Then the scene changes to Seung-ah who is talking on th phone at a cafe about not getting a job. But she gets another call at the same time from the Palace public relations team. it looks like she did get the job after all.

While she is on the phone, Young show up right in front of her to talk to her. he flashes his badge and asks if she is Myung Seung-ah.  She is so surprised to see him because he is like a celebrity. He asks to see her camera that she used for the rowing event. 

She gives him her camera quickly and asks if he knew she was here? He says yes. She wonders how he knows?

Yong flips through all the photos and sees one of Lee Rim. He gives the phone back and thanks her for her cooperation. Then he asks for all the photos to be sent to him to his email. It looks like he does not recognize Lee Rim.

She is just amazed that he is so handsome up close. She even lets it slip. He tells her that he heard her and then walks away.

PALACE

Young fills Head Lady Nam in on checking the photos from that woman. he sys that they found the woman that caused this issue, it appears that the emperor was following her.

Nam asks, what? The emperor was following a woman? Young tells her that he saw the clock rabbit. He is just guessing now, he will tell her when he has evidence. She tells him to investigate it. The talisman did not work at all so I was about to grab that shaman’s hair.

REPUBLIC OF KOREA

Meanwhile, Gon is sitting in his fabulous hotel room and looking at his jacket that does not have any more buttons on it. Which means it is time to leave.

he goes to get his horse and counts all the spare change he has left. 

Myung Na-ri comes up in an expensive car and then opens the door to another expensive car and goes inside to her place. She is the landlord of this community. So he thinks he can talk to that car owner.

he goes into the cafe that she also owns. She asks if he is the owner of the horse? He says he is glad that someone finally recognizes me. As you guessed, I am the owner of Maximus. Actually, I am the Emperor of the Kingdom of Korea. 

She is all like, ah, okay.  I like it.

He tells her that if she likes it then can I have a milk tea after trying it. She tells him to purchase it first. Five dollars.

He takes a water outside with his horse. It looks like he is drinking a free water. Shiin-jae shows up and calls Tae-eul to show up and come downstairs. She pokes her head out of her window which makes Gon stand up and say, you were home this entire time!

This makes Shin-jae thinks about all the times that someone told him that Tae-eul met a handsome guy today. So he knows that Gon is that handsome guy. 

Tae-eul tells him that she is on her way down so they can eat something. 

Gon and Shin-jae look at each other.

Gon – It is impolite to ask you this at the first meeting. But what is your relationship with Detective Jung?

Shin-jae jokes around with him about something. Gon asks him what that means? (he said their relationship is that they blink their eyes from 2 o’clock to 3 o’clock and Hong-dae to Gondae). 

Shin-jae does not explain himself and takes photo of him. Gon pulls his hoodie over his head. SJ asks if he is crazy? Gon tells him he was just checking to make sure he was not his savior. 

They keep arguing about how what they each say does not make any sense. Gon tells SJ to watch his mouth. I start by executing people.

SJ – What the F? So what should I start with? I am the kindest when I see a person for the first time. If I see you one more time here then I am not just talking to you.

He walks off and tells Tae-eul on the phone that he is coming up. Gon thinks that this guys relationship to Tae-eul is still unknown. He looks at her place.

Cut to photos in Tae-euls house. Then we see a flashback of her as a high school kid yelling at her father about all the eggs he has in the house. She tells him it is not the Joseon Dynasty, how can someone pay you their hogwan fee with eggs? He says they have an egg business. They had a lot of leftovers. It is a lot of work to buy eggs you know.

She tries to tell him that he can’t pay the rent with these eggs, I told you to check on them! They even want to wear a pink uniform. How can you teach them the spirit of taekwondo? He asks her where her grades are. I haven’t seen your grades for many months. She is speechless about that. 

She tells him that she has a good idea that she thinks will work.

Cut to her sitting in the window of the taekwondo studio with plum blossom petals falling across the window. She is reading a book. A lot of guys walk past her window and have a close look at her. But then they say let’s go.

However Shin-jae stays and keeps looking at her. So she keeps trying to sit there prettily. But in the end she says that it does not work. She tells her appa who is instructing little kids that she wants to have double eyelids. He tells her she can get it when she grows up.

But, her method did work, Shin-jae comes upstairs to start at the taekwondo school

In the present, Tae-eul goes downstairs to the courtyard and asks Gon why he is still here? He says he knows the word half-and-half. I am coming with you. She tells him, how dare you come? You should have a good time with your 7th grade officer.

She leaves.

He stares at her walking away.

She walks down a flight of steps outside but then turns back to look behind her. He is on her mind. What he said in the chicken restaurant is in her head about the reason he is trapped in her world. 

She pulls out her phone and flips through it. Then she heads back to the courtyard. He is still standing there. She reluctantly goes up to him.

TE – Why are you still here? Are you going to keep standing here?

Gon – You shouldn’t treat me like that.

TE – Why shouldn’t I?

Gon – It makes me sad.

TE – What?

Gon – Why didi you leave me alone here? You are the only person I know here.

TE – Ah, drives me crazy. Okay, let’s actually talk about this. Why am I the only one you know here? You behave like you know me, but I don’t know you. Why do you know me?

Gon – Because I got your ID tag 25 years ago. Someone dropped it.

TE – 25 years ago? Who did i?

Gon – I am looking for that person. It seems like you are related.

TE – It should be if they have my ID. But if I take what you said, 25 years ago I was 5 years old. I wanted to be a police officer but how can yo pic it up 25 years ago.

Gon – I do not know the reason, but the ID tag I have is 2019 November 11. I was waiting for that day for a long time.

TE – November 11? That is Dicaprio’s birthday. I forgot about my Oppa. Okay, you reminded me of him. Hey. Mr. Kim Gae-tong. It is all an illusion. I am really telling you. You don’t need to do it here, when you don’t have any more money left. You should have a family that is worried about you.

Gon – Family? Is that what you are wondering about?

TE – Yes.

GOn – Okay, I will give you an answer, I did not marry yet.

TE – What the F are you talking about?

Gon – I have no family so I made my decision. I will show you so that you know who I am.

TE – Okay, okay, give it to me. I want to understand you.

He steps closer to her and puts his hands behind his back.

Gon – Detective Jung Tae-eul, I will appoint you as my Empress.

TE – What?

Gon – You became the reason. The reason I am trapped here.

TE – What the heck? I thought you were half crazy but you are completely crazy.

Music starts to play as they look at each other.

Fade Out

COMMENT

Okay, I wasn’t really feeling this episode. For some reason it felt kind of boring? Like the dialogue was too long in some parts? I don’t really know, but this episode kind of dragged for me. 

I really liked the scenes with Lee Rim in them though! He brings a sense of urgency to his scenes that I love.

But for some reason I just don’t like this 2019 storyline with the leads. it might be because the lead actress is so annoyed of Gon all the time so it is hard to ship them. But i am used to that so I don’t think that is it. 

Hopefully the next episode is better because I really loved the first episode so much. I am still holding out hope for this show to be great with just a meandering 2nd episode. So I’m super curious, how did you like the 2nd episode? Is it just me?
