SPOILERS & RUMORS
The festival today was for removing the Devil from the palace. But actually the Kings internal purpose was to show the Kings power to the three concubines families and show them that he is not a puppet so give me your power. That is why the King fought today against Byong In and showed his martial arts skills and showed that he is not dumb. If the three fathers from the concubines become on the Kings side then the Kim family who is on the Queen Grandmothers side will become alert to those families and Chol Jong can attack the Kim family from behind in order to get the book.
Historically, the Kim family takes control of the palace and the Hong, Min, Jung, and Park families control everything with them. So Kim Jwa Gun has all the power under the Queen Grandmother. The Kim family was in power for 60 years so they could do anything they wanted in Korea.
In the drama, the concubine families are from the Yoon, Min, and Hong families who are from the same locations of Korea as the Hong, Min, Jung, Park families. So perhaps these families could side with the Kim family (to be historically accurate) or perhaps the writer might change history and use them to help the King take power.
