WESTERN STANDOFF
The Queen stands with her sword behind her back and waits for Jwa Gun to show up. He walks up just like they are in a western standoff.
JG – is it my turn?
Q – Ah, you are waiting for me? Sorry. I wasn’t sure if I should invite you since you are out of politics
JG – Is it funny?
Q – you wanted to form an alliance but without notice you are out.
JG – You failed controlling your husband
Q – That is why you didn’t make sure of my safety? I had plans until you instigated me.
JG – What plans?
Q – To live my life safely and boringly
She throws him a sword.
Q – take out your sword
JG – I do not fight women.
Q – This is a present that I prepared for you because we couldn’t give you a proper retirement party. I put everything you did on the sword blade so take it out and see.
He pulls it out with force, but it is only a very tiny tiny blade
Q – That is your life. *walks towards him* Even though I am the Queen, what can I do as a woman. that is what you told me. See what I can do. I have no filter and no break and no backing.
She pats him on he back and walks by. He kind of smirks in defeat.
KING AND CONCUBINE
The Concubine goes to see the King. He asks how she feels. She tells him that she feels better after shooting her arrows.
K – That is good
HJ – You work late
K – Nothing you need to worry about
She sees the book and looks through it.
Hj – If I knew this would be this important to you, I should have used it more preciously. I put a lot of notes in it.
He ignores it.
HJ – I am sorry to take your time.
She gets up to leave.
K – Concubine, I have something I did not tell you. I did not like you because you are the one I met in the well. I liked meeting you again in the palace.
This looks like a slap in the face to Hwa Jin. Yang-pyung comes in so Hwa Jin excuses herself out. Yang Pyung asks what he said to her. The King says he should ignore the reality that no one wants revealed, right? he looks at Hwa Jin leaving.
KING AND QUEEN
Later on that night, the Queen visits the King and knocks on his door at the entrance. He looks up at her.
Q – Those passionate eyes….You pervert.
She strolls up to him and asks if he was waiting for her t give him a lesson. he says he wants to hear the future story even though he does not want to believe it.
She pulls out a book and writes what todays lesson is. Then she shows it to him. It is E-pun-goo-joo-dae.
Q – You rule the country but you do not control the country. We have a King but the power goes back to the people. There is a country called Bhutan. this King actually changed the country to the way I told you.
K – Why?
Q – He was afraid that in the future a crazy guy would become King and ruin the country. So you have the law and rule the country according to the law. The King is just figurative.
K – That is smart. What kind of emperor is he….
Outside the room, the masked eunuch plants something or eavesdrops or does something evil.
GISAENG HOUSE
Byong In gets drunk with a friend who tells him to go home. Byong In says he has no home and nowhere to go. He owns nothing and has nothing. he pours himself another drink.
CONCUBINE
Hwa Jin gets ready for bed and thinks about what the King told her. That he doesn’t like her because of the well. She thinks that he shouldn’t know. It weighs heavily on her.
She decides to go see the King. The eunuch tries to keep her out but she forces her way inside and then into the actual room.
She sees The King and Queen happily sleeping together on the desk once again. Their heads are together with the King holding the Queen slightly.
In the morning, Byong In wakes up on his desk as well in his office.
THE KING AND HIS FRIENDS AND THE QUEEN
Hong thinks it’s kind of silly to make a military book with the half man half woman Queen. the King tells him not to say that. She is a weapon that we have never heard of. Hong says, okay, let me hear it.
Q – I know of a good military training method that I can teach you first.
Cut to Hong working out military style. The Queen yells that she can’t hear him! This is only the 8th move. there are several more. The last one you do not say out loud. If you cannot do it then you start over.
The King is in the back drawing all the moves. Yang Pyung tells him it is dangerous involving her in this. The King tells him that she created a war with her own family. Do you still have to prove that she is on our side?
Hong said something so she tells him to start over.

CONCUBINE
Cut to the concubine. While getting ready, hwa Jin thinks about what So Yong said to her. She does not realize that she became a monster little by little every day.
Back with the King and his friends, the King tells Yang Pyung that they can take down the second Prime Minister with all this information. Arrest him. yang Pyung goes to do that.
While he is about to leave, the Concubine comes in. She talks to the King alone and says that the King talks to the Queen every night. What do you talk to her about? He says they talk about the Joseon he dreams about.
She says she thought she was his confidant. I do not want to be swayed by others anymore. I am not the owner of that book.
The King looks at her as if he is not shocked
HJ – You knew it? Why didn’t you say anything to me?
K – Nothing changes
HJ – How does nothing change? You don’t have trust to me anymore. You can’t be looking at me the same anymore
K – With only one lie, our time together does not disappear. We shared our heart for two years, that does not change
HJ – You pretended that you did not know, for me. Because you are that kind of person. o you think that I would be happy that you pretended you did not know?
K – Hwa Jin…
HJ – I accused the Queen. I gave the book to Daebi that was at the Queens house
K – Why?
HJ – The Queen…I hated her.
K – Didn’t you know how important that book was? I needed it.
HJ – I knew it and I did it anyway
K – How can you do this to me? You know my dream better than anyone. You destroyed my dream…
Hj – My dream was you. But your heart was directed towards the Queen. You tried hard for the country but you were attracted to her. I was humiliated. I lost myself like that.
K – *sits* it is my fault. i made you like that.
HJ – It is my fault. I shouldn’t have loved without thinking of myself first. I am going to find myself again, even though it is late.
Yang Pyung and the maids listen outside the room. He closes his eyes.
QUEEN AND MAIDS
the Queen and the maids sit in her room and read the book The World of the Married. She happily reads along because she is into it. Though she is mad about what that bad husband is doing in The World of the Married book.
They ask if she is going to see the King tonight? She thinks that she should see him so that she can be his teacher. But she also wants to read some more so she says just one more page.
KING AND QUEEN
She comes in late. We see that he removed Hwa Jin’s name from her book and wrote her book there once again. he hands it to her.
Q – Why are you giving this to me?
K – You told me that if I wanted to survive again, then I should give it back. Not knowing the truth can hurt people. It took too long to return this to the owner. I am sorry I didn’t recognize you.
Q – Same to me. I wasn’t so innocent for a long time. It came back to the owner after eight years.
K – We can’t take all the missing time back, but I will never misunderstand you. But, what happens in that eight years. You were a little strange but not this strange. Did I miss anything?
Q – *laughs* Yes.
KITCHEN
The Chef tries to scrape the bottom of the bowl to eat something. The Queen asks what it is? He says it is medicine. She grabs the spoon from him and says it smells like alcohol. he explains it all to him.
She asks to try it. He says it was the last of it. She sadly looks inside the barrel and then asks how to make it.
He teachers her how to make it. You make balls and add yeast and put it in a bowl and three days later you stir it and then twenty days later you drink it.
She holds the jar and hopes for time to pass quickly.

CORRUPTION
Yang-pyung goes to a Kim family politician, the second Prime Minister, and drags him away fro all his corruption.
In the palace, the other politicians did not realize that the Queen’s threat was true. The King tells them that the Min concubines father will be the prime minister. The Cho family says no. The Kim family is quiet about it so the King stamps it.
GRANDMOTHER QUEEN
The grandmother Queen yells at Byong In and does not let him sit. She asks when she can go back to politics before the Kingdom is ruined. Byong In says he is preparing the military so the Kings word will not last long. The Grandmother Queen tells him to hurry, she is not that patient.
Also, she heard something strange. The Queen is teaching the King bad things.
Byong In goes to the Queens room and finds a love letter. He also sees the book from the well. he rips off a page inside.
JAIL
the friend goes to the jail and asks if thees are all cult people? Then he takes the note to a woman in the jail and asks if she knows this handwriting?
He meets with Byong in and says that the writing is a secret word.
KING AND QUEEN
Meanwhile, the Queen is dressed like a man again and meeting with the King and the friends. She explains that one bomb is better than ten soldiers. Hong thinks that sounds like a made up thing.
She tells him that she remembers the #25 PT exercise so he changes his words and says what she says sounds right.
The Queen tells them that they should put the gunpowder in something and throw it so it explodes. The King says they already have that. She asks if they have armor then starts to talk about bullet proof vests. Byong-In kind of agrees with her about this.
But then Hwan comes in so they all have to put away all the things they are working on and pretend like they are playing a gambling game. Hwan recognizes the Queen as his old friend and gives her a big hug. He says he worried about him so much! How have you been! He holds her hand and hugs the Queen again.
The King does not like this at all and pushes the Queen away to ask who this Hwan guy is. Hwan says he is his friend, who are you? The King doesn’t know what he is and has a hard time saying it. So the Queen says he is Jong Chul. the King is all like, really? The Queen tells him, if you are not Jong Chul then who are you? So he says he is Jong Chul.
They start to play gambling games. The Queen is amazed at all he is learning about the QUeen during this. The QUeen thinks that Hwan is an insider (Insa) and yang Pyung is an outside (Asa). She looks at Hong and thinks he is like her. This combination is great. She chuckles.
they climb a huge wall. The King wants to help the Queen, but she jumps down and lands like a super hero. She tells him this is the skill she learned from the Woman jumping game. Then struts off.
MORNING
In the morning, her maids find her sleeping in her man clothes. They sigh.
Elsewhere, the Kim politicians worry with Byong In about how one of their own was arrested. Maybe that book came out? Byong In says if that is true then the real clean up starts. To not get caught, you have to draw blood and put your greed aside. Whoever sold the position should step down. The person who snuck the royal offerings has to fill it again. You need to change all the records. Whoever knows the situation, you need to take care of them well. If someone didn’t do a proper job cleaning and gets caught, then that person takes all the blame and dies alone.

KING
The King thinks that by cutting the Kim family, it makes Byong In’s power greater. He is with his friends. They think that they need to find Byong In’s corruption. they have evidence that people tried to promote him but no money or nothing was exchanged. He did not get anything.
The King says that the people that Byong In put in have strong loyalty to him so they can’t buy them off. He is a hard person to attack.
However, they have to stop talking because Hwan comes back in to hang out with them. He asks if the other friend isn’t here? the friend mutter that this Hwan guy is so diligent. How can he come play gambling every day? Don’t you work? Hwan says this is his work.
KITCHEN
That next morning, the chef dreamily puts on Choi hair scarf.
Choi also walks off somewhere happily.
hey both meet in the bamboo forest. He shows off his hair that he tied with her scarf. She smiles.
Choi – I am here to yell about the Queen.
Chef – Me too…you go first…
She turns and starts yelling about all the things the Queen does. YOUR HIGHNESS…DON’T MAKE ME MAD….YOU WILL FALL INTO BIRD POOP IF YOU CONTINUEEEEEE
But he looks at her as if a bird is chirping happily.
The chef tells her that it is difficult to find someone that curses better than him. He is about to give her yelling advice and is about to touch her belly to get more strength. But he stops.
he starts to yell all his anger. to her, he sounds like a stallion. She huts his chest lovingly. then they start to yell together.
ALCOHOL
It is 20 days later and the alcohol is ready. She takes out the alcohol which looks a bit like yogurt?
Yeon thinks it looks pretty. Choi and the chef talk but their voice is gone. So the Queen asks what happened to them? they kind of start to clear their throat.
The Queen thinks she should drink some, but it makes her sick a bit so she thinks she should drink it later on a full stomach (uh oh! Does this mean what I think it means!). She happily hugs it and says she will drink it later.
She goes to meet with the King. he tells her that his war book is ready and happily shows her all the drawings. He chuckles and says that whenever Hong sees the drawings, he looks like he might pee himself. She thinks, he did a great job drawing it then.
The King gets a bit soft and asks if the Queen is lonely at all? It was difficult for him to adapt to palace life again. Perhaps you are lonely as well since you are so different.
She tells him there is not time to be lonely. everyday is different and I am busy running around everywhere. He looks at her. She tells him that someone even made a dictionary to understand her so she is not lonely.
Music cuts on, he looks at her lovely and touches her cheek. She thinks, is this ramen time? Do it…do it….
he is about to kiss her but she almost throws up. She tells him that she did not do that on purpose, she just feels strange. She almost throws up again. The King says to call the doctor.
The doctor comes in and checks her vitals. The King asks if it is serious. The Doctor tells him, she is pregnant.
Q – what? Pregnant?
The Doctor stands up and bows. The music kicks in.
King – Good job Queen!
He hugs her happily and laughs with teary eyes. he thinks he is going to be a father!
The maids are all shocked. The King happily cries. Everyone dances in the background happily.
But the Queen looks like this is the worst thing possible, maybe? She is in a state of disbelief
Q – Me…pregnant….?
Fade Out

Love this ending! I also love how several people guessed that she might become pregnant in the comments on here and YouTube! You are a smart bunch! What I love the most is that this will give So Yong a lot more power in the palace since she is carrying the future King.
Also, how great that they showed how much time has passed by having the Queen have to wait for the alcohol to mature. That was a lovely use of time because I have been confused as to how much time has been passing in the palace. I feel like before the alcohol, only like one month passed? But now it is a solid two months (I think?).
from the preview for yesterday, I thought the Kim family was doing all their dastardly deeds to give the King a hard time, but it looks like they are actually trying to erase their corruption by restocking supplies and changing the books. If they are caught doing that, though, then they have to kill themselves (per what Byong In said). Goodness, crime does not pay yall. Especially when the government starts cracking down hard on it.
And now the Queen is pregnant. Huzzah! This was an all around win for the King and Queen this episode, which I love because the needed an uninterrupted success. See y’all next week!

Love this theory!
After this episode, I really do think CJ is going to step down from the throne, which puts me at ease as it means our king and queen would get their happy ending. Listening to her stories about the future Republic of Korea has to have him thinking that he should allow future events to unfold as they were meant to. I mean, even if he did make great changes, with a monarchy, there’s no guarantee that your children or grandchildren will also be good people and not cause the people to suffer.
Glad to see that Hwa Jin told the truth (as well as realized the truth about herself) and the king also acknowledged that they had a past that wasn’t going to be erased by her lie. It brings depth to his character. Sad to see Byeong In turning more and more to the dark side. Still think a good conversation would help clear everything up, but his growing anger is making things awkward. Still hoping for a redemption for him as he is genuinely a good guy and has had all of his gestures coldly rebuffed – I can understand why he is starting to become the way he is, even if I don’t approve.
YES, mad respect for the way they write Cheoljong’s character. He’s not just a king with ideals, he truly is a sincere character! I was sooo impressed at how he dealt with Hwa Jin clearly and not being a jerk towards the woman he once loved.

I’m very very happy for the No-Touch couple! Though it’s a really great news, it also poses a danger on SoBong’s life as her enemies gets threatened by her carrying the next heir to the throne. I have read the real life history behind Cheoljeong, it was sad. It was an early ending for him. But how I would see for this couple’s happy ending to work is that they will fake their own deaths (relating to the history that the King died at a young age) in order for him and the Queen to live a peaceful happy life together. I believe his most important dream now is his family, because finally, he has his very own now with So Yong and their child. So he would really try his best to save and protect them more than his ambitions. I really want a happy finale for this series! All of us, and especially both of them, deserve it ❤

After reading this, I am happy that Sobong’s pregnant but got worried so much that something would happen to Sobong’s pregnancy, because of all those theories and spoilers from those who watched the Chi-version. I just want to enjoy the last four episodes peacefully. Hopefully they both once again, smartly evade the evil intentions in the palace next week!!

Based on your translation, Kim Hwan says something about gambling every night is his job. Could this be connected to the “special mission” that Byeong-in once assigned to him?
I’m with you here. Kim Hwan has to have a more important purpose in show other than comic relief. I’m thinking his falling in love and hearing that it’s her concern about ambitious people that might bring him on board.
I do love him though. Hope he’s not bad. Both he and Hong just crack me up.

OMG, I wonder if that is the case!
So I finally watched the entire subbed episode, and I have to say that it felt “off.” Some elements were still very, very good, but it was almost as if another, less talented, writer created large parts of the script. The queen’s threat scene against the Kims wasn’t very polished. The weird Western “showdown” with evil Kim guy and the king’s odd attempts at making the queen laugh just felt forced and out of place. Still loved the episode, but I hope the next four don’t follow the trend of this one with its uncharacteristic writing.
On a random and off-topic note, does anyone crave and eat Korean food while watching this series? I’m over here enjoying a large pot of tteokbokki as I rewatch 15 and 16.

Yep, I understand what you mean. It did feel slightly less polished than the other episodes and some of the scenes felt a bit more disconnected than they normally do. I wonder if they were running a bit out of time to edit or if they just wanted to get over this part quickly to get to the pregnancy storyline?
Thank you so much for the recaps. I’m obsessed with this show. My kids just laugh at me because I just suddenly smile or laugh when I remember a funny scene. It’s been years since I’ve watched ongoing KDramas because I do not have any discipline. =)
What bugs me is Kim Byeong-in’s lineage. Why did Kim Jwa-geun adopt him? For someone who is very ambitious, there should be a very good reason why he chose to adopt Byeong In. For some reason, I keep on thinking that he and the King are related. I should hate Byeong In but he is friends with Kim Hwan, and I still keep on hoping that his good side will prevail and redeem himself towards the end when the Grand Queen Dowager asked for the Queen’s head. Would ByeongIn learn to let go of his hatred towards the King when he finds out that the King truly has feelings towards the Queen? And that the Queen is happy to be with the King? What happened to HwaJin? Did she just peacefully leave the palace to find herself?
The King’s dream of dying and that the life he is living now is the past, he was old in that dream, so it could mean he lived a long life. Hopefully, he and the Queen has a happy ending (this is a comedy series after all) together with their Little Prince.

Lee Seang Mang is just so cool and jealous Cheoljong just tickle the hearts. Im glad Hwa Jin is trying to redeem herself, Byeong In however has gone so far off the deep end. Seriously, they need to place some guards at the Queen’s palace or something. It has morepople coming and going than a subway station. LOL.

This episode is one of my favorites so far. There was so much happening and it was a very funny one. But I’ve got to say that my favorite moment was when Court Lady Choi and the Royal Chef met at the bamboo forest to take out their frustrations at Queen by yelling obscenities. They were hilarious!! I had to watch that part 3 times because I could not get enough of it. Each time funnier than the one before. These two are a match made in Heaven and certainly belong together!🙂

There is a possibility that jwagun is actually the real mastermind behind the kim politicians probably they are just fooling byong in and cho politicians becos the is no way jwagun will just step out of politics, i am sure he has something up his sleeve.
