Byong In walks to visit the Grandmother Queen. It looks like Jwa Gun sees him and is upset?

Byong In meets the Grandmother Queen and tells him that he was right. The King is not like how he looked. What do you think about the accident.

Byong In says he found the gun powered. There are only two kinds, the one imported from China and the one we make in house. The one we found was Korean made. The Grandmother Queen thinks gunpowder belongs to the military department. The military minister controls it.

Byong In says yes, my fathers right hand man. The Grandmother Queen asks, does that mean…she puts a hand on he forehead. Byong in tells her that he thinks his fathers idea is to take care of the King himself and blame the royal guards that fakes their identity.

The Grandmother Queen asks, what do you need? He tells her that he wants the King.

He goes to the throne room and says to himself, I can’t stop. Especially if you think that way So-yong.

MORNING

Hwa Jin meets with Jwa Gun outside and says she wants to tell him that the Queen is the one that saved the party. He asks, do you think I believe that? Do you think I made the King like that? She tells him that after a little investigation you will see it. You tried to ruin the party.

H asks, you want to be the Queen?

Hwa Gun tells him that she does not need the position. She just wants to see the Queen disappear from the Kings side. He asks, does the King also like the Queen?

After they meet Hwa Gun runs to the woods overlooking the Kings quarters.

Inside, the King is being treated for his wounds.

The Queen leaves the King. Jwa Gun sees her and fumes.

GRANDMOTHER QUEEN AND MUN GEUN

The grandmother Queen asks Mun-geun if he likes the King in this short amount of time when he became his son in law? Mun Geun says actually, I wrote down all our corruption and lost the book. But don’t hurt the Queen. It is because the King has the book. The Queen has nothing to do with this. The King lied to me and the King.

The Grandmother Queen asks, was everyone tricked by the King? Mun geun says she can punish him, but do not hurt So Yong.

NIGHTTIME

Byong In meets with Jwa Gun that night. He asks if Byong In is staying in his office now? BI says yes. He also mentions that he does not have to worry about being blamed for this event, he will find out who the real perpetrator is.

Jwa Gun asks what the real size of his dream is? Byong In says he wants to become at least half of what Jwa Gun is. Jwa gun tells him to go rest.

Then we see a flashback of Jwa Gun seeing the Queen run out of the room where her and Byong In kissed.

In the present, Jwa Gun mutters, I know what moves you.

MORNING

Daebi takes out the ledger book and goes to see the Queen. She goes to her room and it looks like she hid the book somewhere in the room. She leaves after telling Choi that the Queen is not here. Choi told her that the Queen was making some food for the Grandmother Queen.

In the Kitchen, the chef comes and is surprised to see So Yong cooking so early. She says she can’t sleep so she is making tedious food that she has to  stir five hundred times. She gives a super duper detailed recipe of the soup. The chef writes it all down.

It is a very detailed recipe that is made just like a morning prayer. The chef thinks that she put this much effort in. The King will wake up if he eats it. She says no.

Cut to the Queen and Daebi and the Grandmother Queen sitting to eat together. Daebi thinks, I told her that so she made me eat with Grandmother Queen? The Grandmother Queen thinks, do I have to eat with this cunning mouth woman?

They look at their food and the Grandmother Queen asks what this is? So Yong says it is brunch. She gives a definition of brunch and how it is ladies eating and having a good time. Daebi says she knows brunch. She is not from the Ice Age (but she says a super old Korean era). Grandmother Queen looks at her annoyed.

Daebi says she did it when she was young. The Queen chuckles. Daebi looks at her. So Yong tells them that this is carrot soup. It will make your eyes bright. The Grandmother Queen tells Daebi that she should eat a lot since she does not see so well. Daebi says the Queen should eat it all. (it is a joke as people who don’t know who is the elder and doesn’t know how to behave).

The Queen wonders why it is so hostile in here. They both eat it and think it tastes good. The Queen tells them that she will make this opportunity often. They both curse in their minds. The Queen leaves to make a dessert drink for them.

Daebi and the Grandmother Queen stay reluctantly. Daebi mutters that the Queens food is overestimated. The GQ sys that recognizing good food also shows your class.

Daebi tells her that the King and Queen share letters every night, what do you think they talk about?

The dessert drink arrives. They both look at it. The Queen tells them all about the ingredients. Daebi asks, do you drink alcohol in the morning? The Queen says she removed all the alcohol and only left the ingredients that keep your youth. It is not just a drink, it is medicine.

They both drink it and love it. The grandmother queen says that it is a good idea to boil the alcohol. Daebi asks who taught her her cooking. The Queen says it is her inspiration. When she sees ingredients, she has this idea that comes into her head about how to make the best meal out of those ingredients automatically.

Q – (I cannot say it is France since they are scared of France invasion.)

HWAN AND HONG YEON

Soft music starts to play. Hwan meets with Yeon outside and tells her that after the Kings accident he thought that he can’t foresee the future. My life could end tomorrow, what would I regret the most? It would be the heart that I could not reveal because of my hesitation. One true heart is more important than flowery words. So, I like you Hong Yeon.

Yeon tells him that she does not like him. The music scratches.

BYONG IN

Byong In finds out that the gun powder sent to the palace and the one they have have a little disparity. Byong In smiles.

THRONE

The Grandmother Queen tells Jwa Gun that she is worried about the King when he wakes up because he lost his hearing. Do you think the explosion was from gun powder? Jwa Gun says it could be sulfur.

The Queen grandmother says that if it was sulfur then the King would know because it would smell. If it is gas then it should not explode like that, it would leak slowly.

He says they are interrogating the suspects but they are not saying anything so it is difficult to find out. He goes back to stand with the other politicians. The Grandmother Queen thinks about the food that was served. Perhaps…

Cut to the politicians talking about who could possibly do this. Choi and Kim families stand against each other. They think the other did it and they start to talk about the coup attempt before and how that was from the low class soldiers.

Jwa Gun thinks taking more time causes more turbulence. I am going to ask the seven who were sinners for their sin and I will execute them.

Cut to the seven men kneeling before Jwa Gun for execution.

In the politician office, the politicians think that if they execute them now then they will not catch who was behind this. The other politician yells that no one else is behind this. They keep arguing back and forth.

Suddenly, the King comes in. The doors open dramatically and everyone gasps. They all nod their heads in a bow.

The King steps in and walks to the front.

In he execution area, a word is drawn to execute the guards. But then Yang Pyung yells STOP and comes in to stop them. Byong In ays this is the Kings order. How can you stop this.

Byong In tells them that he has the real Kings order which is to release the innocent.

Int he throne room, the King goes to his throne. They all wonder about what is going on.

The King tells them that he has a young energetic body so he woke up like this. I did not want to waste my time taking care of my disease so I investigated who tried to assassinate me and I investigated you all first.

They ask, you investigated us?

The King tells them that someone tried to have a coup. Are you saying that your private life is more important than my own assassination attempt? 

The politician says no, thats not it. 

The King tells them that they should not have anything to worry about if they don’t have anything to worry about. Don’t worry, I found out who was behind this. We found Korean made gunpowder.

Jwa Gun looks stoically forward.

Flashback to the King telling Yang Pyung that the pot will become a bomb itself. Yang Pyung thought that was too dangerous. The King thinks that makes it a sure thing.

In the present, the King says he investigated the gun powder and found out that it was privately traded in the black market.

In a flashback we see Hong getting the gun powder. He is dressed like a man from Japan and says he is going to use it to invade Joseon. But they don’t know what he said because he spoke in Japanese.

In the present, the King tells them that gunpowder is only for military use. They cannot trade it at all. I investigated all the gun powder traders and found something strange. Gun powder was sneaked out from a particular region. It started as a small amount but it became bigger and bigger like greed gets bigger and bigger. Do you know when it started Kim Jwa Gun? The year I became the King, the year you became head of military training.

the head of the military says, King that is a false claim. The King yells for him to shut up. YOU ARE THE ONE THAT WORKS WITH KIM JWA GUN WHO LET GUN POWDER BE SNUCK OUT. YOU ARE PART OF THIS COUP. 

In a flashback, the King says he is going to use the guards fake identity as bait. Kim Jwa Gun should know about it. He tells his seven guards that they will undergo unbearable torture, but please withstand it. I will rescue you. They all nod.

The military leader falls to the ground and says he is wrongly accused!

The King hits his throne and says, if you talk about being wrongly accused again then I will execute you right away! Those gunpowder sellers sold that gunpowder to whoever paid for it. Even to bandits and Japanese. This is an attempt to destroy Joseon. WHO ARE WITH THEM!

All the politicians look around. Chul-jong tells Jwa Gun that he weakened the countries military by sneaking out gun powder and tried to assassinate the King. you are the biggest sinner.

In a flashback, Hong asks what the name of this mission is? The King says it is called Red Phoenix, the phoenix who burns bright red. But it also means “to fake something” in current terms.

The King tells the politicians, I am going to fire you two and send you to house arrest.

The Grandmother Queen stands in alarm and asks, what are you doing! Why are you so emotional! Did you lose your judgement after the accident! You should behave as the proper King.

K – Okayl if you say that….*stands*….you are old and have lost your judgement. I cannot rely on you fro running the country. I request that you stop politics for me. Now it is time for me to decide for the country.

GQ – King!

K – I should execute Jwa Gun right now and kill three generations of the family. But for you and the Queen I am finishing it by just firing them. Don’t you like it?

GQ – Are you making a deal with my brothers life?

K – When you have a choice then you can talk about deals.

Jwa Gun bows in front of the King.

JG – I am wrongly accused but I honor your order and show you my loyalty.

K – That is good. I was worried that you would be a greedy old man.

JG – i do not care about my position. Just give me a chance to prove myself to not have a dishonorable discharge to the court.

The King yells, Okay, but if the court does not have a decision by tomorrow then I will fire him right away with my Kings authority. And, the court that did not fulfill the duty and everyone else here will be fired!

All the politicians fall to the ground bowing.

later, the Queen Grandmother talks passionately with her brother.

QG – You lost! You are fired by the King you put on the throne!

JG – I did not suspect that the King would fake his own assassination attempt.

QG – Who do you think would make this trap? I trust you and let you take care of outside politics. But you don’t have eyes to read people!

JG – It is difficult to know how people are (old Korean saying). Inside and outside of politics, we all made mistakes in picking people. You trusted the Queen and let her pick the concubines. But she chose to help the King. Who saved the party I ruined? The Queen. Inside enemies are scarier than outside.

Hwa Jin finds out that the King woke up.

The Queen is resting in her room muttering, if my husband does not wake up then I am of no use. if I am of no use then I will be a useless Queen. If I am a useless Queen then I cannot have my revenge attempt and will need to open a gukpab place. Ah, that is not so bad though!

She sits up and gets good news from choi and Yeon that the King woke up and his hearing came back as well!

She stands up but her legs are all stiff from sitting so she trips. She starts to cry and says that is really good. They all happy cry about it.

Meanwhile, the King is in his quarters. He removes his bandages. Hwa Jin comes in and hugs him happily. She says she is happy he woke up safely. I will never lose you again.

He smiles as well but she looks at the dictionary he made of the Queens terms.

KITCHEN

Meanwhile, the Queen is int he kitchen drinking shot after shot. She says it is difficult to see him and not drink. Choi tells her not to do this! The Queen tells her GO HOME in English. Choi says she will drink it all to remove it! So she drinks all the alcohol.

The chef tries to feed her after drinking all that alcohol. The Queen tells her they have so much to drink in here. Yeon asks, what bothers you so much? The Queen doesn’t really know. She says she will go see the King tomorrow and do all the things she does not want to do from tomorrow. We have tomorrow! hey, one more drink head chef.

The chef mutters, does she think this is a bar? The Queen tells him to hurry.

Cut to the Grandmother. She searches the Queen’s room and finds a lot of things like the letters. They also find the ledger. It was hidden in the ceiling boards.

She gives the book to Jwa Gun and says she found it in the Queen’s room. He says the King and the Queen are working together. She thinks the Queen is all broken. He tells her that they can replace broken things. But, we can use the current product as fire. Should I use real cyanide this time?

The Grandmother Queen thinks, she is also being massaged by the blind maid.

Jwa Gun says that the Queen likes food so much. The King will tragically realize that as soon as he liked the Queen, he will tragically lose the Queen and realize that anyone around him will be in misery.

The Blind woman goes to the back to see a little dog and puts her fingers in his water bowl. Then she writes a note on the stone wall and walks away.

A person comes in blue.

VO – Tomorrow coming to use everyday is a miraculous thing.

A man comes and looks at the message that was written. The full message is not shown. The man takes the water bowl from the dog and pours it over the message.

Elsewhere, the Queen drunkenly says that they can go see the King for a celebration. But she has to be practically carried by Yeon. Choi is also drunk but is trying to remain dignified and says you cannot call the King like that.

The King is in his room and looks at the notes from the chef and the Queens notes. he realizes that the chefs writing and the Queens writing are the same.

The Queen wakes up and sees Hong Yeon looking at her. She smiles and asks why she was looking at her like that the entire time. She asks why she is always looking at her like that and trying to understand her. I am really thankful to you. When I tried to leave here, I thought about you since I would not see you anymore.

She touches her cheek. Yeon also touches the Queen’s cheek and it looks like she leaned in to kiss her?

In the morning, she wakes up and rolls over to hug Hong Yeon, but it is the King. She looks stunned when she sees the King sleeping next to her. He rolls over and asks, are you awake? She looks like she is about to push him perhaps but then sees his lips.

Fade Out

What a big switch! The King planned the entire thing! I also think someone guessed that in the comments section! (Either here or on YouTube, I really remember someone saying the King could have planned the entire thing, so bravo to you!)

I love this switch since it gives us some satisfaction after the King was so degraded at the end of the festival. Now Jwa Gun is the one that is on his knees. Ah, I love it.

But of course, we know that will not last. Jwa Gun will come from this somehow, but at least we have this moment to enjoy. Hopefully we have another moment like this to enjoy of the King destroying his enemies because I just cannot get enough of it. Give it to me like it is the lone trickle from a water spring in the desert.
