Wow, SBS is on a role with its high profile dramas. Kim Go-eun and Lee Min-ho started script reading for their SBS drama The King: The Eternal Monarch which is set to air in the first half of 2020. SBS also has Vagabond that will premiere this Friday and has lots of attention on VIP which is coming up next month. Out of the three major networks (SBS, MBC, KBS), SBS is definitely doing something right as they, for the most part, have pretty fun and watchable dramas coming out (they are the ones that did The Last Empress as well).
The King: The Eternal Monarch, is written by eternal and ever lasting hitmaker, Kim Eun-sook who brought us so many hits such as Goblin, Descendents of the Sun, Heirs, and most recently, Mr. Sunshine. Well, she is back again with another epic thrill that many people will be keeping their eyes on. Kim Go-eun and Lee Min-ho are reuniting with Kim Eun-sook for this major production (Kim Go-eun starred in Goblin and Lee Min-ho starred in Heirs, both major hits).
This particular story is an interesting twist on what she has done recently. In The King: The Eternal Monarch, we will have two parallel universes, one with a King and one with a democracy. It appears that both universes can talk to each other. Lee Min-ho will play the role of the King who wants to close the gate between the two worlds. Kim Go-eun will play a detective who works with the King in order to protect the people of the Kingdom. Or maybe the people of both worlds? I don’t know, it sounds cool though.
The script reading took place on September 17th and filming is planned to start at the end of this year with a first half of 2020 premier date. So yeah, they are starting to cut it a bit close if this drama is as epic as it seems. I for one will definitely be tuning in.
