Kdrama Penthouse Premiere Has over 190 Official Censorship Complaints after its First Airing! Where can I watch!

Kdrama Penthouse Premiere Ratings and Censorship Complaints

First let’s talk ratings. Korean drama Penthouse has hit the ball running with 9.1% on its first episode airing that climbed to 10% by the second episode. The first episode has been described as a home run which just makes me salivate to get to a screen and see what all the fuss is about. Dear readers….it looks like there is something here.

As per usual, I still have not had a chance to watch last months dramas let alone this weeks. But imma have to drop what I’m doing to check out this show because there are already 190 censorships complaints to Korean Communications Standard Commission about it! People are that upset about it!

And why? Because this show is a crazy makjang, y’all. If you have never seen makjang at its best, then you haven’t watched good old homeschool Korean television. A recent fave is Empress of Dignity but that skewed comedy. I do not think Penthouse has much comedy in it. From the posters, it looks more in line with Sky Castle.

In case you do not know (and because I am here for you, *kisses*), makjang is the genre that is basically in line with daytime soap operas (of the All My Children or General Hospital ilk) or a Telenovela or any other show that is just bonkers crazy (I’m looking at you Scandal) with lots of family issues and debauchery (bastard children, hidden children, long lost children, love affairs, and painful pasts)…. also known as a hot mess.

SBS knows how to make a good drama. And who doesn’t love a well-done hot mess of a show with plenty of twists and turns that I am confident SBS has the talent to carry out? Plus….y’all…. 190 complaints! If that is not reason enough to check out, at least, the first episode, then I don’t know what is. I am clicking play tonight!

Penthouse airs Mondays and Tuesdays on SBS. You can watch it on Viki.

Um…I feel attacked? XD You didn’t have to call out Scandal like that. But woooow, Penthouse is THAT crazy? I guess World of the Married might not finish 2020 as the craziest drama.

Yes! Scandal was amazing, but like every Shonda Rhimes show it went off the rails. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing, you just have to strap yourself in for the crazy ride.

World of Married was definitely the kind of crazy I support. If Penthouse is even crazier, I’m intrigued. Let me know how the first episode is.

Fyi, Penthouse is written by The Last Empress writer and directed by TLE/Return director. I have yet to complete watching ep 1-2, but I see comments that it is similar to Return too. Not surprised Penthouse got huge ratings in the first week though, both Empress and Return were huge hits at their time and with the writer-director combo and a cast this huge (it has 8 main cast), it’s a highly anticipated drama 😆.

That ending was hilarious to me with the entire behind the scenes drama going on.

It was because of a scheduling conflict with Choi Jin-hyuk, right? At least that’s what I remember. But while I was watching I was like oh, lawwwwd XD Wang-sik was just so important to the plot it didn’t work without him. They should’ve CGI’d his face on someone’s body or something bahaha.
