I'll See You When The Weather is Fine: Episode 1 Recap – Part 2

This is part 2 of our recap for I’ll See You When the Weather is Fine!

Caution: Be wary of typos

Shorthand Character Chart: coming up

How we do this: This live recap will be in two parts and we segment each post around every 10 minutes. Sometimes sooner, sometimes later depending on the scene. There will be typos which we have fantasies of fixing once the episode finishes airing. Also, if there is a preview then we will try and translate it. Look for that on a separate post!

MORNING

The next morning Hye-won hops up and tells her emo that she is going to clean the shed. So she opens the door and is immediately overcome with a cloud of dust. But she is not deterred as she starts to throw one thing after another out of the shed to clean it.

In Eun-sub’s house, he eats with his parents and sister. ES wants to give some food to their father but the mother tells him to just eat yourself. So he starts to eat. The sister says that Eun-sub has a girlfriend named Irene. The father asks, what? A foreigner? What country?

The sister says that seh saw it, look at him lying with that face. The mother says that Eun-sub is not even 30 yet so I am not ready to send him out. She chuckles and tells Eun-sub that they should go buy ddukboki to sell at their ice rink.

Eun-seob tells his mother that he let someone borrow the car. The mother asks, huh? You let someone borrow it? The sister says, see, look at this, he gave it to his girlfriend, Irene! The father says that she needs an international drivers license! Which country is she from? Europe? Eun-sub tries to say that he doesn’t have a girlfriend but the family is all chatty.

Meanwhile, Hye-won takes a break from cleaning and drinks some water inside. While doing that, she has a flashback of her boss telling her to just go to another hogwan ad pretend that you are a student. Take a one month lesson. Do you think it is spying? It is not spying, it is reasearch.

But Hye-won does not look like she awnts to do that.

Cut to the hogwan where Hye-won plays her cello to a teacher. The teacher tells her that she is so good. Then the other student comes up to play.  Hye-won sits and looks guilty.

Later on, Hye-won talks to two other students at a cafe and sees the teacher looking at her in a despicable way with another woman. They might have found out that she is spying on them. She also gets yelled at by her boss who is upset that Hye-won got caught spying.

The hogwan teacher starts to talk about her teaching method, it is boring, and she needs to make the kids interested. You only talk about music theory. That is why I wanted to send you to the other hogwan, to learn! You need to watch a comedy program.

Hye-won walks down the hall and sees another hogwan teacher dressed as Beethoven to make the kids have fun. The kids love it.

In the present, Hye-won wakes up and walks down the steps for dinner. The phone rings so she starts to take a reservation. But her aunt hangs up the phone and asks her why she is taking a reservation? Hye-won says that she is doing it to make money.

But Emo says that they do not need to make money, we closed a year ago. Hye-won asks why? Who closed it? The aunt says that she closed it. Hye-won asks, why did you close this? It is halmoni’s family business.

The aunt tells hr that she is too old. Hye-won says she is only 48. The aunt tells her that that age is so difficult, I am tired. Hye-sun asks how she is going to make a living? Her aunt tells her not to worry about the house anymore, I will take care of it.

But Hye-won asks how she can’t do it? Everything is broken. I just want to fix it. I also worry about you living in this old place. Her aunt tells her not to worry about her at all. You are just doing this to calm yourself down.

Hye-won asks what she is talking about? Emo tells her that she ran all the way here to extinguish that fire in your heart. You need something to do so that is why you are making noise. Isn’t that right?

Hye-won asks if she is happy to tell her that? The aunt pauses a moment then walks off.

Hye-sun puts on a coat and leaves the house in a huff. She walks all the way to the bookstore. Eun-seob is enjoying a drink outside sees Hye-won. So she sits outside for her own hot drink. Thats when his sister rides her bike up spoiling the mood and yelling about who Irene is, is it this eunnie?

Both Eun-sub and Hye-won are embarrassed.

Eun-sub has a flashback where he types on the computer – she’s back. Then we see him noticing Hye-won walking up the hill with her bright red luggage and his uncle asking if he saw a ghost.

Eun-sub smiles in his house and looks out the window at Hye-won walking around outside. So he rides his bike to meet her.

VO – There is only one reason I like winter. The leaves that cover my window fall and I see your window.

He rides his bike around at night.

VO – When Christmas comes and when New Years comes, you come back to this town for a few days.

He rides all the way to Hye-won looking at the hay.

Then we go to another flashback where they are both in their high school uniforms and he is on his bike riding up to her. She asked him what those marshmallow things are and he says the same thing, they are hay rolls.

VO – that day, Irene asked me – what do you call those marshmallow looking things over there?

He goes back to his desk and starts to type again.

VO – Maybe it is insomnia? Then I may ask her to join our goodnight club that has the longest night.

On another day, he sneaks around her place but then his father calls on the walkie talkie so he has to answer and she sees him.

VO – No, maybe I couldnt’ tell her anything.

On another day, he gives her something to dry herself off with when she comes in soaking wet from the rain.

VO – Even if she is in front of me, I can’t tell her

He walks around her to the sink and asks if she wants a coffee. She nods so he makes her one. He also pus the heater next to her. She tells him that she didn’t know he ran a bookstore or that it is a real bookstore. She asks why he has many of the same books – The Wind Through the Willow Tree?

He tells her it is because he likes the book. he bought the other versions to see if the title is the same. She asked if it was the same? He says it is almost the same. then seh asks why his bookstore name is Goodnight?

VO – To her, who asked me why the bookstore name is Good Night. Having a goodnight sleep is a good thing. Waking up well, eating well, resting well, and having a good night sleep, that is a good night.

He write this in high school, the teacher throws a piece of chalk at him and tells him to focus.

VO – Goodnight was my longterm thing I thought about. I always think about goodnight. Goodnight is the question of my life. But I can’t tell her that. Because I am a dumb guy who does not know how to comfort others.

He lets her drink outside his place and stands next to her but doesn’t know how to talk to her. He barely can look at her.

VO – That dumb guy that can’t even answer her question.

Then his sister comes riding up and asking who Irene is. And we are caught up to the present. She asks if this eunnie is Irene? is it you! Eun-sub says it is you! Yes you! The sister asks, me? Why am I Irene?

Eun-sub says yes, and go, hurry and leave, hurry hurry! He practically chases her away, she takes off on her bike. Then he tells Hye-won that Irene is his real sister. We both have insomnia, do you want more coffee?

She shakes her head no.

He thinks, I am screwed. But he is saved by the phone ringing so he runs inside to answer it and asks, right now?

BUS

Hye-won and Eun-sub ride the bus together. He is in the seat in front of her and asks if she is really okay? She tells him that she has never been to the class reunion and did not even know that it happened.

He says that they have been doing it for the last ten years. I haven’t gone every time. Maybe I should not have involved you? She says it is not a bad thing.

So they keep riding.

They get to the restaurant where they are having the reunion. The classmates are talking happily inside. Lee Jung-woo is one of them and tells them that that is nonsense! Another woman tells him that he bought 100 flowers because he loved Ji Eun-sil. He says that is  nonsense!  she liked me.

They all smile and joke. Another woman says that is nonsense, you know that I was Eun-sil’s best friend. She told me, ah, he is following me so much, such a big headache. They all laugh. Jang-woo says to give him her phone number! I will check the facts.

Another guy comes in and says that he really wants Eun-sub’s phone number. But then they change the topic to Hye-won who teaches cello in Seoul. They talk about how they want to leave the countryside and live alone in Seoul. They all joke and laugh about that.

Then another woman comes in with a baby. She is married to one of the men and scolds him for going without her. Then she sees Hye-won and happily sits next to her. Hye-won asks, did you marry him? How? She says she will tell her later.

They ask how Eun-seob’s bookstore is. But then jan-woo asks her if he liked Eun-sil. She is all like, yes you liked her, of course (LOL).

The mom says that they can Eun-sil to find out. But then Jang-woo points at Eun-sub and says that he liked someone too! Who was it! But the ladies says that Eun-sob comes to these meetings and sits quietly, but he won’t come because of you!

Jang-woo says that he does not want to be the only victim. Drink or say it. He doesn’t say so they all bang the table. So he says, Mok Hye-won.

They all stop banging the table and look at Hye-won and smile awkwardly. But then the mother realizes that the baby is missing, lol! So they have to run to find the baby.

Hye-won and Eun-sub are left at the table with one other person so its awkward. But the other person starts to talk about work and Hye-won runs off to where they found the baby (in the other room playing).

THAT NIGHT

Hye-won sits in her room and turns on and off the light as she looks at something that is on her wrist. It looks like it might be a tattoo? or some kind of marker? Not sure, but she smiles as she turns the lights on and off looking at it.

At the bookstore, Eun-sub writes about his goodnight club that has the longest history of an organization. Are you sleeping now?

But then he bangs his head on the table and looks out the window as if he regrets saying that he liked her. He starts to type again. But then there is a knock on the door. So he goes to it.

It is Hye-won. She is all bundled up again and says that she has a question. He says no. She asks, what is no? He says it is all past. She is confused then says, you told me you liked me? He quickly says, yes, it all ended. Then he closes the door on her.

Cut to split screen where we see him on the inside and her on the outside. He thinks, I am so screwed. Then runs to another room. She wonders what is going on.

But he comes back and opens the door again. She is still there. So he thinks about what to say and she stares on blank faced.

COMMENTS

I wasn’t too sure about this show once I saw the trailers. It just looked so slow and boring. But I actually really like it! It is adorable! Hopefully it maintains this adorable hidden first love feel that turns into a happy love story because it is too cold for sad sauce. Bring on the spring feels, drama!

You guys have been doing great work and I really enjoy coming here to read about the comments and the recap. However, I haven’t been visiting your site nor commenting lately. The problem is the popup ads associated with this site. I am able to manage navigating through it when I access from my desktop, but it becomes impossible when I tried with my phone.

We need to get rid of a lot of the pop up ads! They have really taken over. That is one of the things I plan on working on in March. Thank you for letting us know WPB! OPINIONS ON ADS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME!!!
