We have motion on Song Hye-kyo and Park Bo-gum’s drama that has now picked up the English title Encounter though it is maintaining the Korean title of Boyfriend (남자친구). I am not sure which one I like best though I can say with certainty that Encounter immediately makes me think of an alien encounter and not a noona love story. Boyfriend on the other hand has young love interest written all over it. For the one part, you kind of stop using the word Boyfriend when you reach a certain age (ie Song Hye-kyo’s age), so having the title as Boyfriend harkens back to reliving a younger time in ones life or having a very young lover. Whatever the case, can November get here already?
In these images Song Hye-kyo looks like she has wrapped all the pretty into a nice bow of scorn as she stoically looks out a car window, sternly reads a book, and grumpily walks into a building. Her life is miserable and she shows it. In the drama, she plays the daughter of a politician and the ex wife of a chaebol. Her marriage was a marriage of convenience for her father, so after having a child she decided to leave her husband.
All of this entitled misery comes to a halt when she meet a man who is ordinary in all things except his looks, Park Bo-gum. They meet in Havana, Cuba and the story, I assume, picks up right there. This set up makes me wonder – is this the Korean version of How Stella Got Her Groove Back? Because I would be all aboard that train ride.
Encounter (aka Boyfriend) will air November 28th on tvN, it will take over the time slot currently held by The Smile Has Left your Eyes.
Looks like another great drama is on the way!
