KOREAN DRAMA DINNER MATES RECAP EPISODE 31 & 32 – PART 2

DINNER

Keanu, Hae-kyung, and Do-hee all have dinner at a restraunt. They are in a private area. Hae-kyung asks if he is back? Keanu says yes. Keanu asks if they live together? Do-hee says it is not like that yet.

HK – *sadly* Why are you so serious about it?

Keanu – Just take him, do not give him a hard time

DH – We are both busy. Weddings are not simple work.

HK – *stares at her*

DH – It was like this before, but when I see you ajusshi, I feel so relaxed. *laughs*

Keanu – *Laughs*

HK – *fake laughs*

HK – So I heard you quit the hospital and left a while ago so why are you back so late?

Keanu – I travelled here and there with Jae-huk. We did physical work together and traveled together.

Flashback showing all of this.

Keanu – It was not just for him, I also needed it. We wrote a novel together and sang together and had fun.

HK – You had fun with an excuse of treating a patient.

DH – That is good that you were there ajusshi.

Keanu – Yes, it is. It is good.

DH – Let me use the restroom.

Do-hee walks out. Ah-young comes p to her angrily and asks if she is crazy? You came to this expensive looking place and want me to pay for it? Do-hee says sorry, you are the only person I can call when I have an emergency.

Ah-young whines that she never looks for her after Hae-kyung showed up. Is something wrong? Do-hee says no. AY basically says thats good because she would whoop him if something was wrong.

Do-hee pulls her inside the private room. AY looks at Keanu and then dramatically runs to him. Do-hee pulls Hae-kyung out feigning stomach pain. But he does not get it. So she has to pinch him and tells AY and Keanu that she has to leave. She pulls Hae-kyung out.

Keanu and Ah-young look at each other for along time. He asks how she has been.

PROMENADE

Hae-kyung and Do-hee walk up the street. She holds his arm. They talk about Keanu and how he looked like Harrison Ford. He laughs and says she likes sunbae a lot.

She says yes, of course, he is trustworthy and centered. He was homeless in our neighborhood but I picked him up.

HK – So you are a dangerous woman. How can you be friends with a strange neighborhood ajusshi?

DH – He is a psychiatrist and gently and kind.

HK – What if he wasn’t?

DH – Well…he wasn’t not.

HK – Woo Do-hee, sometimes I worry and am insecure that you trust people so easily. When strangers tell you to ignore, just ignore and if it is dangerous then run away. Why don’t you know how scary the world is? Huh?

DH – That is how I met you. I did not know your name or job or anything and ate dinner together and was comforted. If I was not this kind of person then we would never meet each other.

HK – that is actually true. Because my Do-hee had no plan so that is how we met.

He gives her a big hug, she tells him to not say anything about it. He tells her that he has already met him so she does not need to meet anyone else. I am the last person for you in this life. She says okay and they happily walk off together.

HK – But is Hyun-woo sunbae more trustworthy or am I more trustworthy?

DH – Are you jealous or your sunbae?

HK – Nooo!

She starts to run off, he says that is a dumb questions! He catches up and they laugh.

HAE KYUNGS HOUSE

Hae-kyung tells Do-hee goodnight over the phone. He is at home. He thinks about Do-hee saying that they are both very busy and marriage is not a small thing. He ends up calling Do-hee’s mother.

NEXT DAY

He eats with Do-hee’s mother and says that there is something going on to where he cannot even mention marriage. It looks like they get alon really well now. She gives him a lot of food. (Aw, she made chicken soup this time)

HK – I cannot even mention marriage to her. I tried but family consultation is so difficult.

Mom – Do you want me to be on your side? *smiles*

HK – She told me that you would push for marriage a lot, so why don’t you do it? Just push to get married right away.

Mom – *smiles* It is not like she does not like you.

HK – I know, I know.

They keep talking about Do-hee and eating. He says that he does not know if he should tell her this but Do-hee cannot even make ramen. Her mother tells him to just give up with that and gives him another leg. Hae-kyung mutters that she told him he has to eat instant food his entire life.

/5/

2N BOX

Do-hee goes up to Sora and tells her to tell her what the meaning of these dried flowers are. Sora is sulking.

Do-hee asks if this guy is handsome or not. Sora says she does not know who this person is. i signed up for an online cafe.

We see a flashback of her doing this.

VO – I met a man there. We connect and he is just my type. So I asked that person if they would like to eat dinner together.

Sora waits for a message to eat dinner with this stranger. She stays at work late.

In the present, she sighs and gives Do-he the note on the card. The card says, “I never meet people who I meet online – offline. Our fate is in the other world, be happy.”

Do-hee says to be happy, he is a good person. Sora complains that he is so kind even though he is not meeting her. Do-hee says that they do not know if he is kind or if his typing is kind.

Sora grumbles and wonders where normal people are. Jin-kyu comes up and gives her a drink. She takes it. Do-hee looks back and forth between Sora and Jin-kyu. Then she tells Sora that Jin-kyu never bought her a coffee since they have worked there. I saw him buying you a coffee many times. Sora says he gave her coffee often. What about it?

She looks at Jin-kyu and wonders, is this only for me? Do-hee thinks that he might be the guy. Sora shakes her head, noooooo.

PARK

Keanu and Jae-hyuk meet at a park to chat about things. they talk about him meeting his old friends and colleagues. But he doesnt’ think he will see HK or DH. Keanu tells him that he is much better. lets go, I will buy soondae guk. Then he changes it to galbitang.

NOEUL

Noeul and gun-woo work in his studio. She flips through hr computer. He asks if she is really okay with Jae-hyuk. She says he is smart and will be better than anyone else. Gun-woo makes sure she is comfortable with it and they decide to hire him.

CLINIC

Hae-kyung and Keanu talk in his clinic. Keanu says Jae-hyuk was his last patient. He does not want to continue being a doctor so he won’t help Hea-kyug in his clinic. 

He wants to do other things in the world. He wont’ leave again but he has someone that he really wants to protect. Flashback to his reunion with Ah-young. He told her that he would take care of her.

Hae-kyung is happy to hear about it. So he basically has a rich wife so he doesn’t have to work, lol.

2N BOX

Ah-young happily dances in her office. Do-hee sees her and asks what happened. Ah-young says not to ask her about it anymore. They playfully argue. Do-hee says that she deserves to hear about it.

AY thinks that is true. She says she is going to hold onto Keanu and not let go. Do-hee says she is the coolest. AY says she knows, Keanu told me that too. They play fight high five and Do-hee heads back to her desk.

Hae-kyung comes in right then with a lot of food for everyone. So they work and eat. Do-hee has t pick out a picture of a woman who is the best. Hae-kyung says that Do-hee is the best. Everyone is all like, ugh, so cheesy.

Do-hee pulls him away, embarrassed.

They go to the rooftop terrace area to chat about how he is a bit in a hurry now. He wonders why he did this and started to analyze things. It is because he did not say things he wanted to say.

DH – Just say it.

HK – I want to get married.

He happily walks up to her.

HK – Lets get married, Do-hee.

DH – Are you…proposing to me with a lunchbox, right here?

HK – Um.

DH – I thought you would do it one day. If you did not do it then I would. But only with this? Huh?

HK – That is why I really want it. *smiles happily*

DH – But still, I do not want to have too noisy of a proposal.

HK – that is why I did it simply. It was spontaneous.

DH – I do not accept this. I want plans.

HK – I will plan int he future. SO do you accept it?

DH – Yes

He hugs her and gives her a kiss. She asks when it is coming and how?

The work trio heads to a group dinner that their boss called them about. They think it is one or the other. She will feed us and eat us.  Jung-whan thinks that is the same thing. Jin-kyu says she can either make them work hard or fire them. Sora says yes, that is true. They high five and run off.

Jung-whan thinks that they can strangely connect well.

NOEUL

Noeul and Gun-woo walk somewhere to meet some people. His haircut is so much better. they end up running into Hae-kyung and Do-hee and BJ. They chat for a moment.

Noeul says she has something to do so she will leave. Hae-kyung, Do-hee, BJ, and Gun-woo go inside. No-eul pleasantly walks off.

They all go inside to this fancy engagement looking place. But actually it looks like someone could get married here? 

Ah-young pulls the curtain int he back and shows up in a fabulous white goddess looking wedding dress. They are all surprised. Jung-whan wonders if this is a hidden camera or something because we don’t do a good job so you are doing it?

They continue wondering what is going on. Do-hee knows though. She tells them that she has a boyfriend. Then Keanu comes out looking all handsome with a bouquet of flowers.

So this is their simple wedding ceremony celebration. Ah-young tells them that they went to the courthouse today and so she has a husband. She should at least tell people. Let’s eat a meal together.

They all congratulate them. Keanu says that even though they don’t have a marriage ceremony, they wanted to have a picture with a bouquet. He introduces himself at Kim Hyu-woo who Ah-young picked up on the street.

They all clap.

Do-hee says that Keanu needs to say I love you Nam Ah-young! So he says that and they all circle up with the equipment for a live broadcast of her marriage. They all cheer and wave.

Elsewhere, Noeul has cup noodles with Jae-hyuk at Gun-woo’s place. He asks why she came back early. She says Do-hee and Hae-kyung were there. He asks if she is still in the ring? She tells him that they were the only two in the ring. He nods and says yes. Let’s eat.

DRIVING

Do-hee and Hae-kyung drive off together. 

HK – You look like a mom who sent your daughter off to be married.

DH – I feel like that.

HK – Were you envious?

DH – They were so pretty, ajusshi and eunnie.

HK – yes, they are very brave.

DH – Are we going somewhere?

HK – To eat.

But he looks like he has something planned.

They go to the coast to a food truck.

DH – We drove two hours to come here? There are so many good places around.

HK – I have good sense in choosing food.

DH – That sounds familiar.

Flashback of her saying that

DH – *laughs* Ah, your memory.

She goes and sits at a two person table with a white table cloth.

DH – How do you know about this place?

HK – I just knew about it.

DH – Lets see your choice.

HK – *to people* Excuse me, can I have chicken, mayonnaise and galbi?

DH – Are we the only customers?

HK – Yes.

They food gets brought out.

HK – Lets eat

DH – It tastes good

HK – Eat this also

DH – This is also good

HK – When I told you to eat dinner together for the first time. The taste we had together, I can’t forget it. Maybe I will remember it for my entire life. I think when I asked you to eat dinner together, it was the best decision of my life. So, lets eat dinner together everyday. Be convinced.

DH – Yes. *smiles*

HK – So….

Both – Would you like to eat dinner together *chuckles*

They both start to eat again. She feeds him and he feeds her and they have a lovely evening.

COMMENTS

Okay, I am satisfied with this ending. I feel like they had some of the fun playfullness from the opening episodes back which is all I really asked for. It still annoyed me to no end that Jae-hyuk was still in this show all the way to the end, #%$^*&.

But at least neither Jae-hyuk or Noeul tried to talk to the happy couple so that was nice.

The proposal was adorable, but one thing they didn’t give us is a nice closed door kissing scene! I cannot believe they did not have that this entire show! Give your fans what they want! But alas, it was not for them. I did love the chemistry between them for the entire drama and might recommend this show with the caveat that the middle is all messed up and you will probably want to drop it and should. But the beginning is amazing!
