The OST’s title is One Million Roses and it sung by Ko Woo-rim who is a Seoul University Opera Singing student and winner of Phantom Singer 2. This song was originally produced and sung by Sim Su-bong in 1997. It uses the music of a Latvia pop song, but the lyrics are written by Sim Su-bong with the changed meaning of “Loving generously without regret is the reason we are born in this world.”
This OST is reinterpreted with Ko Woo-rim’s low voice which adds a nice manly weight to the lyrics. It is based on Sim Su-bong’s original song’s lonely feelings and has an addition of classical guitar arpeggio and string arrangement. It is an important part of the drama and was conceptualized from the beginning of the script because it depicts sad love and feelings of being lost. Almost the entire song was played in the 8th episode which is the part that we have been playing on repeat by literally rewinding that part of the episode to listen to again. Yes, we are like that.
That part of the episode was so masterfully done so if you let me indulge for a moment, I will walk your through it. It starts with Jin-ahn walking and listening to Dong-hoon talking at the bar with all his peeps. Dong-hoon tells Jung-hee that he met someone who said she was 30,000 years old. He thinks she gets reborn because she is not at her right home and he wonders how she can get home. JA stops and just listens to Dong-hoon talking about her as if he sees right through her.
Jung-hee is all like, everyone knows that stupid, without without without hating, just give give give love, and then you can go back to your star. The song starts playing as Dong-hoon smiles, he likes that. Afterwards the lyrics start as the fellas all leave the bar. Jung-hee walks with the brothers and sings the lyrics as they watch her pretend to go to her new place that they all know she doesn’t have. But they smile and wave at her all the same. She starts singing the song as she walks away. The camera cuts to Ji-ahn getting her grandmother ready for bed and Guang-il waiting outside her gate looking menacing.
Jung-hee gets home and says hello to no one as she goes upstairs and turns on the light to her quant room. But she can’t bring herself to go inside and just sits at the door and says to herself that she wants to give all of her love to someone. Cut to Dong-hoon walking alone on the street, but he can’t continue himself and rests on his legs as if the weight of everything is on him at that moment. Ji-ahn watches the phone, a wave of concern across her face as she hears him somewhat sobbing. But then she also hears Dong-hoon compose himself enough to say, “fighting,” which are the same words Ji-ahn told him earlier. The song ends with Dong-hoon straightening himself up and continuing down the street.
Ah, I just loved that scene so much! It was a moment where O and I just looked at each other like, what in the world did we just watch? How did this scene manage to be so bare and yet so full of so many things? It just hit that chord. The last scene that I loved this much was in Oh Hae-young Again when she jumped into the air awaiting to be caught. I loved that scene so, so much, too and guess what…it’s from the exact same writer as My Ajusshi. I mean, what?!? Shall I just bind myself to her for all of eternity? The lyrics are below in English and Korean for all the people who love to sing along.
Lyrics
One Million Roses (백만송이 장미) – Sim Su-bong
When I first came from the star far far away to this world
I heard a little voice telling me to give love and come back
Blossom one million flowers that only blossoms when I am in love
The roses of love which blossoms only when you are in true love
Without without without hating
When I give give without conditions
One million one million one million flowers blossom
Then I can go back to my beautiful star which I miss
Without without without hating
Just give give without conditions
One million one million one million flowers blossom
Then I can go back to my beautiful star which I miss
What is real love, I had painful tears.
It was such a painful world where I passed by many lovers
Many years passed I finally found a love that I can give my entire life to
A love that suddenly appeared like rain
Without without without hating
When I give give without conditions
One million one million one million flowers blossom
Then I can go back to my beautiful star which I miss
Without without without hating
Just give give without conditions
One million one million one million flowers blossom
Then I can go back to my beautiful star which I miss
Now, even if everyone leaves, my love will still continue
This is the relationship from the star that I was waiting for so long
With you, we can blossom more and more flowers
We become one and can go back to that eternal star
Without without without hating
When I give give without conditions
One million one million one million flowers blossom
Then I can go back to my beautiful star which I miss
Without without without hating
When I give give without conditions
One million one million one million flowers blossom
Then I can go back to my beautiful star which I miss
I am so happy that they released this song so quickly because it gets kind of trite to have to rewind the episode over and over again (though this song is worth is); I’m happy to just click repeat be done with it.
There is another song that a lot of people are looking for which was played in episodes 7 and 8 as well as in some of the promotional materials; is not released yet. We will add it as soon as we see it up. All of the Original Soundtrack songs are on our music list. We will continue updating that list as songs come out.

This music is so uplifting and at the same time so sad… I can only think about the loneliness that everyone from this drama have deep inside, especially DH and JA. Thanks for sharing here 😉
Hello. Just stumbled upon this post. The song is actually Soviet Russian, and the original lyrics are in Russian too. Don’t know if you’ve ‘edited’ this info on purpose to avoid the negative connotations, and yes, the composer is Latvian, which was part of Soviet Russia at that time anyways.
Love the Korean version!
I am so in love with this drama that I can’t put it into words. Every episode just puts me in such a content mood that I’ve never had with any other dramas……a feeling of calmness and bliss. The background score, the actors, the cinematography everything is first-class and I honestly feel like an outsider looking into these peoples personal lives. I adore it and I don’t want it to end!
I love this website and all of your thoughts because it feels nice to see other people feel the same way as well! You’re awesome 🙂
Thank you for posting this, it’s nice to read your posts while waiting for the next ep to air 🙂 love all of yout recaps and YES that scene in AOHY when the FL jumps up into the ML’s arms always makes my heart flutter!
I think I have to clarify something. I just hate this song. You have got to understand what this song is about.
This song was written by a Soviet composer Raimond Pauls. The original song was in Latvian and it was called “Marinya gave life to a girl”. It was basically about a woman who gave birth to a girl but didn’t give her any happiness.
However, at that point, the song was not famous in the USSR, only in Latvia.
The song became extremely popular when it was performed by a Soviet superstar singer Alla Pugacheva. The lyrics were changed. The new version was about a Georgian painter, Nico Pirosmani, who sold his house and everything and bought one million scarlet roses for a French actress, Margaret the Sevre. This biographical episode was described by a Russian writer Constantin Paustovsky who, in turn, inspired a Soviet poet Andrei Voznesensky to write the lyrics for the song.
The bad thing about this song: 1. The lyrics are extremely primitive 2. The song was hugely popular in the Soviet Union and many drunk alcoholics used to sing it at parties.
Every time I hear this song I want to through up. It’s disgusting.
:((
Are operatic songs a trend? Misty had one too.
I really think this might be a new trend. I remember being all like ??? when that Misty one played.
Thank you very much for the update..I love this drama from my heart.. but as I’m a Bangladeshi I can’t watch it live..I had to wait but my heart was racing to be with ajusshi n JA.
Does this singer have any other songs out.? His voice is incredible!!
I’m not sure, but I would love to hear more things from him.
he’s part of a group band name forestella (not a kpop band), they are more popular as an opera singer.
